Year 2 in the books! 🎉

What an incredible journey it was for Officer Olson and this amazing group of 5th graders at the Lake Mills Community School District.
Over the course of the D.A.R.E program they learned so much, shared plenty of laughs, and built friendships that will last a lifetime.

From important lessons to unforgettable moments, this class showed what it means to support one another and grow together. So proud of each and every student.

Thank you, Officer Olson, for your dedication and impact—you’ve truly made a difference! 💙

Here’s to the memories made and the bright futures ahead! 🌟

As the weather warms up and more families head outside, we’re seeing an increase in children playing, biking, and walking around our neighborhoods. The Lake Mills Police Department wants to remind everyone: slow down. We have also listened to community members complaints of speeding motorists.

Speeding, even just a few miles over the limit, can have serious consequences—especially when kids are nearby. Children can be unpredictable, and a split second can make all the difference.

Please be extra cautious in residential areas, near parks, and around schools. Obey posted speed limits, stay alert, and watch for kids who may dart into the street.

Let’s work together to keep Lake Mills a safe place for everyone. Your patience behind the wheel could save a life.

Be weather aware!

The severe weather siren will activate for tornado warnings and/or extreme winds. If you do not feel safe in your home, the Tornado Safe Room on the southwest side of the school will be open as an option. If you are in the downtown area and unable to get to the school, the west entrance of the Lower-Level of the Community Center located at 227 West Main Street is open as an alternative.

CITY OF LAKE MILLS OUTDOOR SIREN USE POLICY
DEFINITIONS:
• Trained spotter: Police, Fire, Winnebago County Emergency Management who have attended spotter training hosted by their agency.
• NWS: National Weather Service
• PSAP: Public Safety Answering Point (Winnebago County Emergency Communications located in Forest City, Iowa)

PROCEDURES:
Severe Weather Siren Activation: These two events will trigger siren activation for severe weather.
• Tornadoes (NWS tornado warning and/or trained spotter reported)
• Extreme Winds (NWS measured or imminent at or above 70 MPH and/or reports of whole trees being blown down)

Sirens will sound in a cycle of approximately 3-4 minutes. Additional activations may occur depending on ongoing threats and/or multiple severe weather threats (example: multiple tornado events). The outdoor siren will NOT provide an “all clear” activation.
