As we prepare for the Slider Bowl, we can’t help but think of one of the people who helped make this special tradition possible. In memory of Mr. Boyd Forest, we would like to take this opportunity to share a special interview with him from August 2025.

Mr. Forest dedicated many years to Lake Mills High School and the Lake Mills community, serving as a principal, athletic director, tennis coach, and mentor to countless students and staff. He was also a longtime member of American Legion Post 67 and helped with its famous hamburger stand, a tradition that is closely connected to the history of the Slider Bowl.

When the Slider Bowl tradition began, the winning team received sliders from American Legion Post 67 following the game. We’re happy to share that, continuing the tradition Mr. Forest helped build, both teams will be receiving sliders tonight after the game.

We’re grateful to everyone who has helped make the Slider Bowl such a special part of the Lake Mills community and are proud to carry on this tradition in Mr. Forest’s memory. 💙💛

Keeping our community informed about Lake Mills Area School District finances, funding, and state-level decisions impacting public education. 💙💛

Finance Fridays | Investing in Our Educators
Approximately 75% of the District’s operating budget goes toward staff salaries and benefits, making competitive compensation an important factor in attracting and retaining high-quality educators. A strong, stable teaching staff supports consistent class sizes, programs, and opportunities for students.

Teacher compensation remains a priority for the Board of Education. Our teacher salaries have historically been below those offered by neighboring school districts.

Our 2026-27 starting teacher salary of $44,120 is about $3,300 below the average starting salary of $47,448 offered by the 10 neighboring school districts within a 20-mile radius of Lake Mills.

The operational referendum on the November 2026 ballot would provide additional funding for the District’s ongoing operating expenses, including teacher compensation. The estimated tax impact is $0.40 per $1,000 of a property’s 2026 fair market value, or about $10 per month ($120 per year) for a home valued at $300,000.

Investing in our teachers is one of the most important investments we can make in our students.

For the 8th year in a row, Lake Mills High School has been recognized among the nation’s top high schools, earning a national ranking in the 2026–2027 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings evaluate high schools across several measures, including college readiness, state assessment proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. This recognition adds to our continued record of academic achievement and commitment to preparing our students for success after high school.

“We are proud of this recognition because it reflects the hard work of our students and staff and the continued support of our families and community,” said Principal Cale Vogel. “Our focus continues to be on providing opportunities for every student while maintaining the strong relationships and high expectations that make Lake Mills High School a special place.”

Congratulations, L-Cats! 💙💛

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙡 is the Lake Mills Area School District’s food pantry, available at no cost to all LMASD students and families. The program is made possible through the hard work of our high school student service organization, Interact, and generous donations from our community sponsors.

Families can access breakfast foods, quick meals, fresh produce, hygiene products, and other essentials. The program is confidential and is here to provide a little extra support when your family needs it.

What a start for our Cross Country teams! ✨

Our boys brought home a 2nd-place finish at the Palmyra Eagle Invitational, with an impressive lineup made up entirely of freshmen and sophomores! 👏

Congratulations to all of our runners on a strong showing and a great start to the season! We can’t wait to see what’s ahead. 💙💛

Not bad for a bunch of 9th and 10th graders! LCats Boys finish 2nd place with a team comprised entirely of freshman and sophomores.

The LCat XC teams had strong showings across the board at the Palmyra Eagle Invitational. The boys team lead the way finishing 2nd place to a talented division 1 Nathan Hale team. The team was lead by freshman Brad Hail who finished in 4th place with a time of 18:12. Brad was followed by sophomore Grant Pellman who finished in 6th place with a time of 18:45. Sophomore Josef Steindorf and Freshman Miguel Valdez passed many runners during the 2nd half of the race to finish in 8th place (18:54) and 12th place (19:10), respectively. The scoring was rounded out by Freshman Charlie O'Connell who ran a time of 19:55 and finished in 23rd place.

We knew coming into the year that our young guys were going to be strong. We have a lot of potential in this group, and tonight we took a nice step forward. Our returning MVP Adam Hartman is out with injury, but the young guys stayed confident, and raced hard today. We have big goals for the season, and I feel like today was only a start. We certainly didn't run our best race tonight, and that makes me even more excited.

The girls team finished 8th out of 13 teams, and was led by Junior Liberty Ylvisaker. Liberty finished in 6th place and nearly eclipsed her lifetime personal best. Liberty has put in a tremendous summer of training, and has looked phenomenal in early workouts. Liberty is only going to continue to improve. Liberty was followed by Senior Veronica Kressner, who finished in 18th place. VK had a tough night on the course. She knows that she has more in the tank, and I only anticipate her getting stronger throughout the season. The scoring was filled out by Junior Noelle Herald, Sophomore Aspen Beckman, and Senior Olivia Dolph. This is a fun group to work with and I am looking forward to watching them continue to improve throughout the season!

Congrats to everyone who raced tonight!! It was hot, but everyone persevered and finished! Can't wait to see where the season takes us!

All the best,
Coach Roherty
