Today's featured book is from our fiction section. It was adapted into the movie A Good Year (2006) by director Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe (as Max Skinner) and French actress Marion Cotillard.

From the publisher: "Max Skinner has recently lost his job at a London financial firm and just as recently learned that he has inherited his late uncle’s vineyard in Provence. On arrival he finds the climate delicious, the food even better, and two of the locals ravishing. Unfortunately, the wine produced on his new property is swill. Why then are so many people interested in it? Enter a beguiling Californian who knows more about wine than Max does—and may have a better claim to the estate. Fizzy with intrigue, bursting with local color and savor, A Good Year is Peter Mayle, beloved author of A Year in Provence, at his most entertaining."

Today's featured book is from our biography shelf. To quote the publisher, "A groundbreaking and irresistible biography of three of America’s most important musical artists—Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon—charts their lives as women at a magical moment in time.

"Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon remain among the most enduring and important women in popular music. Each woman is distinct. Carole King is the product of outer-borough, middle-class New York City; Joni Mitchell is a granddaughter of Canadian farmers; and Carly Simon is a child of the Manhattan intellectual upper crust. They collectively represent, in their lives and their songs, a great swath of American girls who came of age in the late 1960s.

"Girls Like Us is an epic treatment of midcentury women who dared to break tradition and become what none had been before them—confessors in song, rock superstars, and adventurers of heart and soul."

Today's featured book is from our Florida history section. Henry Flagler was John D. Rockefeller's partner in the creation and success of Standard Oil. Flagler used his wealth to build a railroad south from Jacksonville. Palm Beach and Miami would not be the icons that they are today if Flagler hadn't built his Florida East Coast railway. But the focus of this book is the construction of the Overseas Railroad, known at the time as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Construction took seven years, and it was completed in 1912.
