A number of locations across the state are temporarily closed due to flooding and storm damage from fast-melting snowpack and days of excessive rain, combined with recent storms, have forced several temporary closures across the state flooding, storm damage and snowpack caused by rising waters from recent rainfall and snow melt.
These are some of the locations with closures: Burt Lake State Park, Harrisville State Park, Negwegon State Park, Yankee Springs Recreation Area, McLain State Park, Tippy Dam Recreation Area, Rifle River Recreation Area, and many state forest campgrounds and boating access sites.
Here are additional tips from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for dealing with standing or flowing spring floodwaters:
· Do not walk, wade, or try to swim in floodwaters. Floodwaters may be contaminated with bacteria, hazardous waste, or chemicals.
· Floodwaters may cover live, downed electrical lines which could cause a fatal shock.
· Stay away from lakes and rivers when water is high. With soft ground, you can lose your footing and slip into water.
· If you are driving and water is over the road, turn around. Six inches of water is enough to lose control of your vehicle.
Please note that closures are continuing to come in.
