Today, August 12, 2026, marks 60 years since the City of Lake Ozark, Missouri was incorporated.
On August 12, 1966, the city was established with a clear goal from our first Board: to have a police force in place by Labor Day of that same year. Not only was that goal accomplished, but we have been able to achieve so many more great things in the decade since.
Planning for city sewer services began in 1983, planning and zoning was established in 1994, and city water service began in October 2000. The city also expanded through annexations along the north shore of the lake during the 1990s and early 2000s.
In 1966, our town had a population of just 379. Today, current Census estimates put our population at approximately 2,279.
Today, 34 full-time employees serve our community in Police, Public Works, and City Hall. We are host to several special events each year, and neighborhoods and commercial areas continue to grow throughout the city.
As we celebrate 60 years, we want to thank the many residents who have called our community home over the years, as well as the business owners, elected officials, city staff members and tourists who have all played a part in helping our community grow.
We’re proud of where we’ve been, grateful to everyone who has helped shape our community, and excited about what the next 60 years will bring.
