Mercy Care for the Adirondacks Mercy Care for the Adirondacks, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, was established in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Its mission is to enhance in every dimension the fullness of life of Elders living in their community. Mercy Care for the Adirondacks is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization established in 2007 to meet the unmet need to relieve isolation and loneliness of elders living in their communities in the rural Adirondack Mountains. Mercy Care is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy Institute of the Americas and helps elders age in place more successfully.

Mercy Care's Technology Assistance Workshop, held at High Peaks Church in Saranac Lake, provided basic internet instruction, entertainment access opportunities, and one-on-one instruction to meet individual needs.

Some of our Mercy Care friends took advantage of the Mercy Care Permanent Loan iPad Program, receiving personalized instruction to initiate their digital journey.

Mercy Care extends friendship, spiritual care, health counseling and education to older adults living in their homes or other independent living communities in the Tri-Lakes region.

Our current 132 Volunteers provide friendship, socialization opportunities, companionship, and a helping hand to, our currently enrolled, 241 elders. They serve as advocates and help older adults stay connected to their communities.

This morning was our first weekly Tuesday programming at the Mercy Care Garden at Uihlein Farm, a Project of Tablelands Farm.

Another beautiful, multigenerational morning in the garden! From weeding and mulching, to clearing soil, and painting plant markers, we got so much done while having a great time. The sunshine and views were both spectacular!

The Mercy Care Garden at Uihlein Farm will offer regularly scheduled social engagement, educational programming, and opportunities for multigenerational garden collaboration every Tuesday, 10:00am - 11:30am.

What does a Mercy Care Health Care Companion Volunteer do?

As a Health Care Companion Volunteer, you will help facilitate access to health care through a model of informal social care supports including transportation to medical, therapy, and lab appointments, and other "errands of mercy".

You might accompany an older adult to medical appointments to be another set of ears, help schedule and facilitate medical and therapy appointments, and pick up their prescriptions.
