Sherwood provides innovative, inclusive services to children and adults with disabilities in their communities. Early Intervention:
Our birth-to-three program provides a full range of services for children with developmental delays or disabilities. Services are provided in the child’s natural setting (home, daycare, etc.) and are provided within a parent coaching model that teaches parents to inco
rporate therapy into the family’s everyday lives. Vocational Services:
Offers a continuum of services for transition students (ages 18-21) and adults with disabilities, and for employers who are interested in hiring individuals who experience a disability. Sherwood Community Services provides a menu of services that are tailored to individual needs including skills assessment, resume building, interview preparation and on-boarding/training once they secure a job. Sherwood was founded in 1957 by eight families of children with disabilities who were excluded from a public education. They set out to not only prove that they had the right but also the ability to learn. The organization quickly grew from that original class of eight children as other parents throughout the county asked for educational services for their own children with disabilities. The agency incorporated as a nonprofit in 1963. It began serving very young children with multiple disabilities and a work program was started for adults with disabilities. As public schools opened their doors to more school-age children, Sherwood focused increasingly on early intervention services for kids from birth –to – three and on adult employment. Sherwood provides services throughout Snohomish, Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties.
