In celebration of Fire Prevention Month, John F. Kennedy Elementary School welcomed Great Neck Alert Fire Company to speak with students about the importance of fire safety. During a school assembly, our local firefighters explained what to do in case of a fire and student volunteers demonstrated safety measures for their classmates. After the assembly, students toured a fire truck and learned about the different equipment used by firefighters. 🚒

The district is pleased to welcome our 2026–27 Board of Education student delegates!

Student delegates from our district's secondary schools were introduced at the October 14 Board meeting. These non-voting delegates play an important role in sharing updates from their schools, offering student perspectives on educational matters, and bringing Board discussions back to their peers. Student delegates and our three Ex Officio Student members ensure that student voice is represented at all public Board of Education meetings.

The GNPS Board of Education has been in the vanguard regarding student participation in school affairs, initiating student delegates in 1975—a practice New York State did not require until 2005.

New York State celebrates School Board Recognition Week to honor local board members for their commitment to community, education and student success. Blazer Pride was on full display at North High School’s Homecoming! 🧡💙 Saturday’s festivities brought the community together for an exciting day of soccer, school spirit and celebration at the brand-new North Athletic Field.

The boys varsity soccer team faced off against Roslyn and the girls varsity soccer team took on the South High Rebels. North High Cheerleaders and the Kilties kept the energy high with exciting performances, and the next generation of soccer stars took the field during half time for youth activities hosted by the Great Neck Soccer Club.

A big thank you to the fans, student clubs, parent partners and community groups who helped make a success!

North High kicked off Homecoming festivities at today's Pep Rally! 📣 Students cheered on fall athletes and rallied together for class points in tug-of-war battles.

The Blazers Homecoming soccer games will take place tomorrow at the new North Athletic Field:

South High Rebel Robotics Team #2638 attended the Optimum Technology Innovation Summit this week at Optimum headquarters in Bethpage. Students showcased their robot, discussed their experiences through the FIRST robotics program, and networked with leaders from Optimum and other technology companies.

During the summit, Optimum presented Rebel Robotics with the Outstanding Community Partner Award and a $1,000 corporate sponsorship for the 2027 FIRST competition season!

Rebel Robotics team mentors Mr. Corrigan and Mr. Motchkavitz expressed their appreciation for Optimum's continued partnership, which supports enriching experiences for students.

South Middle's Team Endeavor traveled to Sleepy Hollow to bring literature and history to life! Students visited Sunnyside, Washington Irving’s home, and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, learning about the author’s life and the history behind "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Along the way, the team heard Revolutionary War tales from the area and explored how local places and legends inspired Irving’s storytelling. It was a memorable opportunity to connect classroom reading with the world that shaped this classic tale!

North High and South High have been recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for exceptional commitment to academic achievement. North High earned the title of School of Excellence and South High has been named a School of Distinction for the 2025–26 school year.

Schools of Distinction have 100% of their varsity teams earn NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team recognition during their respective sports seasons, and Schools of Excellence have 75% of varsity teams achieve Scholar-Athlete status. High school athletic directors Mr. San Filippo (North) and Mr. Braun (South) recently accepted these awards on behalf of their schools during a regional NYSPHSAA meeting.

Congratulations to our student athletes and athletic departments for demonstrating exceptional achievements in both academics and athletics!

South High recently welcomed NCPD Officer Williams to speak with ninth-grade health classes about the Nassau County Law Enforcement Exploring Program. The visit was organized by Dean of Students Mrs. Brighton and Internship Coordinator Ms. Kinsey to introduce students to opportunities available within the community. The Nassau County Law Enforcement Exploring Program gives young people an opportunity to learn about careers in law enforcement, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and gain firsthand insight into the work of police officers.

The ribbon has been cut! ✂️ On Monday, Board of Education trustees and district leaders joined North Middle and North High administrators, student athletes and parent representatives for a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the new North Athletic Field.

The field was completed right on time for North High's Homecoming festivities this weekend. The Blazers will host their first games on the field this Saturday, October 10: boys varsity soccer vs. Roslyn at 10 a.m. and girls varsity soccer vs. South High at 12 noon. The entire community is welcome to attend!

Before the ribbon was cut, Board President Grant Toch and Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Bossert offered remarks to everyone present. Both Mr. Toch and Dr. Bossert thanked the school community their support of this project, which will be a point of pride for the district and serve our athletes for many years to come.

The North Athletic Field project, which includes district's first-ever synthetic field, was overwhelmingly approved by the community in May 2024. Voters approved a similar project for the South Campus in May 2025, and that work is expected to begin next summer.
