Hurray for our own Ms. Dorman getting featured today from Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina for her work teaching at Thomas Academy - NC Charter School. Great job, Jennifer!
It’s a BUT on a Thursday!
Our employee spotlight this week is on Jennifer Dorman, our Grades 3-5 teacher at Thomas Academy - NC Charter School, a program of Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina.
Jennifer taught in Robeson County schools for nine years before moving to the area to care for her grandfather. A talented educator, she earned the highest EOC scores at Acme-Delco and was mentoring other teachers by her second year. She has always tried to work in the same school that her son attends for transportation purposes and found that Thomas Academy offered that opportunity.
Jennifer joined the team last year and says, “I love it.” She enjoys teaching all subjects and finding ways to connect everything her students are learning. “I like to teach Disney style,” she says, referring to a style that focuses on “every little detail.” This might mean connecting a book to spelling words or a math lesson to a science experiment so everything goes together.
Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys crafting, reading, and gardening. She’s also enjoying homeownership and learning how to take care of a home, including plumbing, yard work and hedge trimming.
Thank you, Jennifer, for all you do for our students! 💙
