I am honored to announce that I've joined the Board of Trustees for The Fund for American Studies (TFAS).

I first became involved with the organization when I went to their journalism institute in 1993 and then their Prague institute in 1995 where I met my wonderful wife, Milena.

The Fund's mission is to develop courageous leaders who are inspired and equipped to protect and advance the principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility, and economic freedom. I can attest that their educational programs changed my life and set me on a path of public policy engagement and ultimately to public service.

It is a deep privilege to join the board of this fine organization to help further their wonderful work and help raise up a new generation of leaders!

🚨 Our second piece of model legislation is now live on our website!

Did you know that while handicap parking spaces may exist in condominium buildings, they are not always available to people with a disability? These parking spaces are legally allowed to be sold to able-bodied unit owners who often “dehandicap” them and sell the space to the highest bidder.

Our model bill mirrors Senate Bill 2740, which was passed by our CEO, Dan McConchie, when he was in the Illinois Senate. The bill requires handicap parking spaces in new condo developments to remain a part of the “common elements” and requires all condominium associations to have a written policy on how they will accommodate disabled residents who need such a space.

Governor Edgar was a statesman. There’s too little of statesmanship in politics these days. He will be missed both for his kind heart and particularly because we have too few of his kind.

It took me a bit to find a pic of us together. But that week of Edgar Fellows was memorable. He seemed quite surprised that I had somehow become the Senate Republican Leader without going through his program first. He must have brought it up at least three times to the group that week.

But even with the jibes, he was always affable, inviting and informative. May we find more leaders of his kind again.
