Outdoor Warning Siren Update
The Village has recently upgraded its outdoor warning sirens to be linked to National Weather Service Alerts (NWS). The sirens are automatically activated when the predicted storm path includes a mapped polygon that includes the Village of Lake Zurich and the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District. Using GIS mapping, alerts that pose imminent or likely weather related threats to life and property cause sirens to sound. Hearing a siren means you should immediately take protective measures and check local media for emergency information.
Sirens are activated when the National Weather Service issues the following alerts:
Severe & damaging winds
Tornado warning
Please remember that there is no "all clear" signal. Hearing the siren a second time would be related to a new or updated National Weather Service alert.
You may hear neighboring community's sirens and wonder why Lake Zurich sirens are not activated. NWS alerts outside of the Lake Zurich area polygon do not sound our sirens. This is by design to try and combat "warning fatigue" where people fail to respond to warnings after receiving too many.
