Some gave the ultimate sacrifice long before the fireworks, cookouts, and long weekends began. Today isn’t just about a day off. It’s about the men and women who left home wearing a uniform and never made it back to theirs.

May we never become so comfortable in freedom that we forget what it cost. 🇺🇸

Today, we remember the fallen.
The boots that no longer walk beside us.
The dog tags that became heirlooms.
The empty seats at tables across America.

Land of the free, because of the brave. ❤️🤍💙

🚨 WEATHER UPDATE FOR LAKE AREA + SURROUNDING COUNTIES 🚨

Alright y’all. Today isn’t the day to “just watch the sky and see what happens.” Central Mississippi remains under an ENHANCED RISK (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather today, and multiple forecasters are already mentioning the potential for strong tornadoes and possible forecast upgrades. 🌪️

⏰ TIMING:
Storms may begin developing around lunchtime, with the most active weather expected from this afternoon through tonight. Current window looks roughly 2PM to 2AM.

What we could see:
💨 Damaging winds up to 70 MPH
🌪️ Tornadoes possible, including strong tornadoes
🧊 Large hail
🌧️ Heavy rain and localized flash flooding

Forecasters expect storms to possibly begin as isolated supercells before lining up later tonight into a more widespread severe weather event. Basically: the afternoon storms may come in hot and disrespectful before the overnight line moves through. 😒

A few IMPORTANT things to do NOW:
📱 Turn emergency alerts ON before you get distracted today
🔋 Charge phones, power banks, flashlights, radios, etc.
👟 Put shoes by the bed BEFORE tonight
🐶 Bring pets inside early
⛽ Fuel up if needed
🛏️ Know where everybody is going if warnings are issued
🧓 Check on elderly family members and folks who may not see updates online

And for the love of Mississippi weather trauma:
🚨 DO NOT rely on outdoor sirens to wake you up at 2AM. Have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Also… if the sun starts popping out later today? That is NOT necessarily good news. ☀️ More sunshine can help fuel stronger storms.

Lake FD will continue monitoring conditions and sharing updates throughout the day. Y’all stay weather aware today while the atmosphere decides to act like it pays taxes here. 🌩️

Today is International Firefighters’ Day.

And this one’s for y’all. Not the version the public sees. Not the “lights and sirens” version. The real one.

The ones who show up straight from work, boots still dirty. The ones who run calls on empty and still find a way to laugh after. The ones who sit in the bay longer than they have to… just because this place feels like home.

The missed dinners. The interrupted sleep.
The “I’ll be back in a minute” that turns into hours. The days it’s quiet…and the days it’s everything but.

Y’all carry more than hoses and gear. You carry this department. And whether anybody says it enough or not…it does not go unnoticed. I’m proud to stand beside every single one of you.

Now let’s keep doing what we do.

🚨 Stay ready. Stay safe. Stay together. 🚨

DAY 2. ROUND 3. AND NOW WE’RE ALMOST IN WARNINGS.

Alright y’all, this Round 3 system is starting to wake up. We now have a Severe Thunderstorm Warning just west of us, and storms are continuing to develop and drop south.

What’s different now:
Storms are forming along I-20 and sliding south. These are slow mover which means heavier rain, longer impact. We’re seeing hail + damaging winds already showing up to the west of us.

Big picture (and read this part):
This isn’t one big line you watch roll through.
This is the kind of setup where storms pop up, strengthen quick, and linger. That’s how people get caught off guard.

Main threats right now:
💨 60–70 mph wind (trees down, power out)
🧊 Hail (already being reported to our west)
⚡ Heavy rain + lightning
🌪️ Still cannot rule out a quick spin-up tornado

Timing: Starting NOW and continuing through the evening

What you need to do:
1. Keep your phone ON and loud
2. Don’t rely on sirens alone
3. If a tornado warning gets issued for your area, don’t wait to “see what it does”
4. Have your safe place ready NOW, not when it’s raining sideways

We’ll keep updating as this develops. This setup is messy, not pretty, and those are the ones that sneak up on folks. Stay alert. Don’t get comfortable yet just because it’s been quiet where you are.

‼️ TORNADO WATCH🌪️ has been issued for parts of and until 4AM CDT. TORNADOES POSSIBLE🌪️ with LARGE hail up to 1.5” (PING PONG TO GOLF BALL SIZE) 🏓 and damaging winds up to 70 mph 💨 possible.

Numerous storms are already ongoing across the region, with a mix of line segments and supercells. Northern areas will mainly see a line of storms capable of producing damaging winds and quick spin-up tornadoes, while southern areas may see more discrete supercells with a higher tornado risk.

Strong low-level wind shear will support the potential for tornadoes within both storm modes overnight. Large hail and damaging winds will also remain possible with stronger storms.

DO NOT SLEEP NAKED — STAY ALERT‼️ ⚠️
