🚨🚔🚒 GUNS vs. HOSES 🚒🚔🚨

Scott County, it’s time for a little competition and WE NEED YOU!!! The Guns & Hoses Blood Drive is officially happening, and local law enforcement and firefighters are once again competing for a trophy that will spend the next year sitting somewhere important while the losing side hears about it constantly.

Before anyone asks:

❌ No, there will not be a cage match.
❌ No, the Sheriff and Fire Chiefs won’t be settling this in the parking lot.
❌We doubt we are allowed to spray deputies and officers with a fire hose if Team Hoses wins. (Trust us, we will submit an inquiry!)

Here’s how it works:
❤️ Donate blood.
🚔 Vote Guns.
🚒 Vote Hoses.

The team with the most donations wins the trophy. Now, we’re not saying you should vote Hoses… We’re just saying we’ve never seen a police officer calendar hanging in anybody’s room or office. We’re also not saying firefighters are better… But have you ever heard a little kid yell, “MOM LOOK! A POLICE CAR!” from three lanes over? Exactly. 😏🔥 (We expect a strongly worded response from law enforcement shortly.)

📍 July 7 | Cats Cave, Forest | 1 PM - 6 PM
📍 July 9 | Fairway Foods, Morton | 1 PM - 6 PM

All jokes aside, every blood donation has the potential to save multiple lives. Whether you’re backing the badge or backing the helmet, your donation could make all the difference for a neighbor, friend, family member, or complete stranger on one of the worst days of their life.

So pick a side. Donate blood. Help save a life. And if Team Hoses wins… We’ll be humble about it. (That was a lie.)

🚨 Road Conditions List 🚨

These updates began around 12:40 PM and reflect conditions at the time they were reported. Conditions can change rapidly, and roads that are currently passable may become unsafe with little warning or vice versa.

Assistant Chief Landon Devoter is checking roads throughout our district as calls allow. We will update this list as new information is received, but our first priority must remain emergency response. If a road is not listed, it simply means we have not received a report or personally checked it.

Our recommendation remains the same: stay home if possible and avoid unnecessary travel. If you know of a flooded roadway not listed below, please comment with the location.

🚨 WEATHER & FLOODING UPDATE 🚨

Y’all, please stay off the roads unless you absolutely have to be out. Morton is currently under a Shelter in Place advisory, and many roads throughout our area already have water over them. Conditions are continuing to deteriorate as additional rain moves through.

This is not the time to get out and “see how bad it is.”

First responders, firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS personnel are already having to walk into flooded areas to reach homes, stranded vehicles, and citizens needing assistance. Every unnecessary trip creates another opportunity for someone to become stranded, injured, or require rescue.

And while we know everyone likes to keep up with what’s happening, no news story, Facebook post, or video is worth risking your life or creating additional hazards for emergency responders. The roads are dangerous enough without unnecessary traffic.

⚠️ Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
⚠️ Never drive through water covering a roadway.
⚠️ Do not go around barricades.
⚠️ Stay away from flooded areas and downed trees.
⚠️ Assume any downed power line is energized.

If you don’t absolutely need to be on the road, please stay home and let emergency personnel focus on genuine emergencies.

Stay safe, Scott County!

Assistant Chief Landon Devoter

🚨 WEATHER ALERT 🚨

Lake Volunteer Fire Department is asking everyone to use extra caution today and tonight as heavy rain moves through our area.

🌧 Flash flooding can happen quickly, especially in low-lying areas, ditches, creeks, and roads that are known to hold water.

🌳 Saturated ground combined with gusty winds may also lead to downed trees and power lines.

⚠️ Remember:
• Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never drive through flooded roadways.
• Do not go around barricades.
• Slow down during heavy rain and allow extra stopping distance.
• Watch for trees, limbs, and debris in roadways.
• Stay away from downed power lines and assume every line is energized.
• Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings today and overnight.

If you encounter a flooded roadway, downed tree blocking traffic, or another emergency situation, call 911.

Please help us by sharing this post and checking on elderly neighbors and family members who may need assistance.

Stay weather aware and stay safe, Lake. 🚒❤️

A tropical system will bring significant additional amounts of rain to our area Thursday. This could lead to even more significant flash flooding, especially in areas highlighted in red. Total rainfall for the week in some spots could reach 8-10 inches.

Some gave the ultimate sacrifice long before the fireworks, cookouts, and long weekends began. Today isn’t just about a day off. It’s about the men and women who left home wearing a uniform and never made it back to theirs.

May we never become so comfortable in freedom that we forget what it cost. 🇺🇸

Today, we remember the fallen.
The boots that no longer walk beside us.
The dog tags that became heirlooms.
The empty seats at tables across America.

Land of the free, because of the brave. ❤️🤍💙
