Let's continue the education! Riders who complete the entire Bike Safety Activity Book they received at the Bike Rodeo and return it to the Lakefield Police Department with their name and phone number will be entered into a drawing for a gift card this August. Didn't attend the rodeo or need another book? No problem! Stop by the Lakefield Police Department and pick up a free copy while supplies last. The Bike Rodeo may be over, but bicycle safety is a skill you can practice all summer long!

🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️ THANK YOU, LAKEFIELD! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️

What an incredible day at the Lakefield Bike Rodeo! The excitement in the air, the smiles on the riders' faces, and the determination to successfully complete the obstacle course made for a fantastic day of learning, laughter, and bicycle safety.

On behalf of the Lakefield Police Department, thank you to all of the riders, parents, grandparents, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who helped make this year's event a success.

Today, our riders practiced important safety skills that can help keep them safe all summer long. They learned about stop signs, yield signs, hand signals, railroad crossings, bike inspections, helmet safety, and other real-world situations they may encounter while riding.

Learning can be fun, too! After completing the course, riders put their new knowledge to the test during Bike Bingo and Bicycle Safety Trivia. It was great to see so many kids raising their hands, answering questions, and showing what they had learned throughout the morning. The games helped reinforce important safety lessons while adding even more fun to the day.

Congratulations to our bicycle winners, Brynlea and Thomas! 🎉

Every participant went home with a sack lunch, a swag bag, assorted prizes, and, most importantly, valuable bicycle safety education.

But the learning doesn't stop today!

Inside each swag bag was a Bike Rodeo coloring and activity book. Riders who complete the entire book and return it to the Lakefield Police Department with their name and phone number will be entered into a drawing for a gift card. We hope our young riders continue practicing the safety skills they learned today throughout the summer.

And don't forget about the LPD Wear Your Helmet Citation Program! 🚴🪖

Throughout the summer, Lakefield Police Officers will be watching for young riders who are wearing their helmets correctly. If you're spotted making the smart choice to protect yourself, you may receive a special Wear Your Helmet Citation that can be redeemed for a treat at Kiehl's Bakery.

Most people don't want a ticket from the police—but this is one ticket you'll be excited to receive!

Events like this don't happen without volunteers.

A special thank you to:

Your time, energy, and commitment to our community made a difference today.

We would also like to recognize the Remick Foundation. This event would not have been possible without the grant funding they provided. Their investment helped us provide safety education, prizes, supplies, and a fun experience for local youth.

As I told the riders today:

The safest riders aren't always the fastest riders. The safest riders are the ones who stop, look, listen, and then go.

Thank you for helping us build safer habits, stronger riders, and a safer community.

Have a safe summer, wear your helmet, and we'll see you on the trails!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, MN State Patrol and community of Lt. Tyler Uthe.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Lt. Tyler Uthe, a respected leader, a dedicated servant and friend. His loss is being felt deeply across our agency and by all who had the privilege to serve alongside him.

Our thoughts are with Tyler’s family, friends, loved ones and fellow troopers during this incredibly difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy as they grieve.

As we mourn Tyler’s loss, we are reminded that even those who spend their lives helping others sometimes need help themselves. No one should have to carry life's challenges alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline for support.

Tyler’s impact on this agency and the lives he touched will not be forgotten.
