We’re reminded that while overdose is a very serious crisis in our country that it is preventable through education, compassion, and open conversation.
We aren’t afraid to honor those that we’ve lost due to this crisis and extend a hand of compassion to those currently struggling and/or on the journey to recovery ❤️‍🩹

We’ll be discussing what we’ve been up to this last month, planning for the future, and giving information for our upcoming Steering Committee election.

If you aren’t yet a member but have considered signing up, and you’re looking for a way to get actively involved in grassroots activism, mutual aid, and/or immigrants justice work - THIS MEETING IS FOR YOU!

Ready to meet and organize with like-minded neighbors?
Polk DSA is in need of individuals who are passionate about making their country & community a better and safer place for ALL to exist! Anyone who is willing to actively participate in efforts that work towards that goal is welcome at this upcoming meeting.

❗️Lakeland Data Center Moratorium PASSED in 4-3 Vote

The passing of this moratorium is a small win in a bigger battle ahead.
While we celebrate this win we also gear up for the steps ahead, we will be talking more about the future planning at our August General Meeting.

In regards to the City Commission Meeting today, here is how the board members voted:
McLeod- Yes
Coney- Yes
Madden- NO
McCarley- Yes
Musick- NO
Troutman- NO
LaLonde- Yes

❗️Tomorrow❗️

The official first reading of the Data Center Moratorium Ordinance will be read into public records during the July 20 Lakeland City Commission.

This reading has already been pushed back by 2 weeks as last meeting attendees were informed that the Lakeland Government social media pages were meant to send out a paid aid to tell citizens of this first reading but “something happened” and it was never posted. Due to this issue the commission then pushed the first reading to tomorrow’s meeting instead.

On Current Course the Meetings Are As Follows:
The official first reading will be this Monday, July 20 @ 9am
And the final vote will be Monday, Aug 3 also at 9am

Meetings happen at the City Commission Chamber (floor 3) in City Hall, 228 S. Massachusetts Avenue
