A new chapter for the fire service in Lakeland has begun.

We have officially broken ground on Fire Station 8 at Sleepy Hill Road and Mall Hill Drive. This new station will strengthen our operations in a growing area of our community and help us continue to serve Lakeland with the speed, care, and readiness our residents expect.

We are excited for this new location and what it will mean for the neighborhoods, businesses, and families we serve in north Lakeland.

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to celebrate this milestone with us. We look forward to sharing more as we begin building the future home of Station 8.

Our firefighters are rotating through personal escape training at the Training Center over the next several weeks. Crews are using a prop to simulate an upper-floor window and practice the steps of a safe emergency escape. It’s one of those skills we hope they never need, but important to keep sharp.

BIG NEWS for northwest Lakeland! This morning, on International Firefighters Day, the Lakeland City Commission officially approved the construction budget with Rodda Construction, Inc. for the new Fire Station #8! 🚒

Located at the corner of Sleepy Hill Road and Mall Hill Drive, this three-bay fire rescue facility is a vital investment in our community's safety. It will house an advanced life support (ALS) fire engine, a quick-response ALS medical rescue vehicle, and an incident supervisor — all designed to improve response times and keep our citizens safe as our city grows.

This milestone was a true collective effort. We are incredibly grateful for the support of our City Commission, the dedicated residents who championed this project for the Northwest District, and the recent $1.9 million investment from state and federal partners that helped make this a reality.

With final permitting now underway, we are one step closer to breaking ground. Stay tuned for more updates! 🚧👷‍♂️
