⛳ Tee up for a good cause!

The Lakeland Rotary Club is bringing its Annual Golf Tournament back this October, and this year's event will benefit the Lakeland Fire Department.

Lakeland Fire Department crews responded this morning to a fire involving a multi-family residential structure on East Main Street.

While crews worked to extinguish the fire, additional firefighters also searched the building, established a water supply, forced access into portions of the structure, secured utilities, and ventilated smoke and heat. Crews then continued checking the attic, roof, and other areas for hidden fire and hot spots. Four residential units were reported damaged.

A reminder for every household: Make sure you have working smoke alarms and know how you would get out if a fire happened in your home. Identify two ways out when possible, keep exits clear, and once you are outside, stay outside.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Yesterday afternoon, LFD crews responded to a heavily involved house fire on Oppitz Lane. Our firefighters worked to bring the fire under control while simultaneously searching the home, establishing a water supply, and protecting a neighboring home from heat and fire. One occupant was present when crews arrived. No firefighter injuries were reported.

If there is a fire in your home, get outside and stay outside. Have an escape plan and never go back in for belongings. Let arriving firefighters know if someone or a pet may still be inside.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We are partnering with SPCA Florida as a community collection partner for the 7 Days of Giving, taking place now through Sunday, July 26.

Each day, more than 400 animals at SPCA Florida depend on nutritious meals while they wait for homes. SPCA Florida’s Food Assistance Program also provides pet food to local families experiencing hardship, helping them continue caring for the pets they love.

Community members can help by donating unopened wet or dry dog and cat food at any of Lakeland Fire Department’s seven active fire stations:

Join us in congratulating three additional LFD paramedics!

Firefighters Sean Allen, Taylor Gilbreath, and Everett Fortier recently completed their paramedic interviews with Dr. Banerjee and are now cleared to serve as practicing paramedics in Polk County.

Thank you to everyone who supported them during their ride time and to the instructors who helped prepare them for this achievement.

Lakeland Public Library shared this 1976 aerial view of the abandoned runways at former Lodwick Field, where thousands of American and British cadets received primary flight training during World War II.

Look closely at the lakeside area just east of the four baseball fields. That is where the Lakeland Fire Department Training Center stands today, within the former Lodwick Field property.

Historical aerial imagery and airfield research show a section of our training facility follows the original footprint of a former runway. While the area has been repaved and improved many times over the years, its alignment remains connected to the site's aviation history.

LFD’s first training center was established at this location in 1960, only a few years after flight operations ended. The training tower was added in 1975 and later preserved and refurbished when the current training complex opened in 2021.

For more than eight decades, this property has helped prepare people to serve—first in the air and now on the ground.
