The Lake County Big Read The Lake County Big Read Lake County Library is one of 62 not-for-profit organizations to receive a grant to host a community reading program in 2022-2023.

The NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to broaden our
understanding of our world, our neighbors, and ourselves through the power of a shared reading experience. The NEA presents NEA Big Read in partnership with Arts Midwest. The NEA Big Read in Lake County, CA will be in early 2023 and will feature Postcolonial Love Poem by Natalie Diaz. Please, look forward to reading this work of poetry and attending events all around the County.

Join us for our One Book, One Coast Kickoff Event!

Saturday, March 28, 2026, 12-1:30 pm at the Lakeport Library located at 1425 N. High Street, Lakeport, CA 95453.

Learn about the program, check out a copy of the book, and hear from guest speaker Jodi Hottel, Sonoma County prize-winning author whose published work includes detailing aspects of the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII.

We won't have the Big Read this year, however, the Lake County Library will be participating in One Book, One Coast!

One Book, One Coast is a collaborative program uniting a wide network of West Coast library jurisdictions in a shared celebration of literacy, learning, community, and civil discourse.

For this program, we will be reading They Called Us Enemy by George Takei.

Participants of the Big Read creative writing workshops will be invited to present their work to the public with a free reading at the Lakeport Library.
