"Any child in his right mind will test the limits. That's his job. He's pretty new on the planet, after all, and he's figuring out the rules. The most common reason that children test the limits is that they want to find out where those limits are. Children need security of knowing that someone more experienced and knowledgeable is looking out for them. They don't feel safe when we don't guide and nurture. That's why we often say that children will keep pushing limits until they find out limit. - Dr. Laura Markham

πŸ”₯ Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Know when to act.

Heat stroke can happen quickly during hot summer weather, especially in young children and pregnant women. Knowing the warning signs can save a life.

Watch for:
β€’ Very hot, red skin
β€’ Confusion or unusual behavior
β€’ Difficulty waking up
β€’ Severe headache
β€’ Rapid breathing or heartbeat
β€’ Fainting
β€’ Seizures
β€’ Refusing or being unable to drink
β€’ Very little or dark-colored urine
β€’ Infants who seem unusually sleepy or limp

If you suspect heat stroke:
βœ… Call 911 immediately.
βœ… Move the person to a cool place.
βœ… Remove extra clothing.
βœ… Cool the body with cool water, wet towels, or ice packs on the neck, armpits, and groin.

🚫 If the person is unconscious or not fully alert, do not give them anything to drink.

Quick action can make all the difference.

🌟 Fun Friday: So You Think You Can Dance? πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί
Turn your living room into the hottest stage in town!

Invite each family member to choose a favorite song and create their own dance. Add a silly costume, dim the lights, or make homemade "tickets" for your family audience.

When it's showtime, cheer each performer on and celebrate everyone's unique style.

πŸ’‘ Try this together:
β€’ Create a family dance routine.
β€’ Learn each other's favorite moves.
β€’ Vote for the funniest dance, biggest smile, or most creative performance.
β€’ End the night with one big family dance party.

There are no judges hereβ€”just music, movement, and making memories together.
🎡 What song would your family choose first?

πŸ«§πŸ’™ Blow Bubbles, Build Big Skills! πŸ’™πŸ«§

Did you know that blowing bubbles is more than just fun? It's a playful way to help young children learn how to slow their breathing, become more aware of their bodies, and practice calming strategies they can use throughout life. 🫧

Head outside and blow bubbles together! Before each bubble, encourage your child to take a slow, deep breath, then gently blow to see who can make the biggest or longest-lasting bubble. Talk about how slow, steady breaths help the bubbles float fartherβ€”and how those same breaths can help our bodies feel calm when emotions start to feel big. 🫧

As you play, try asking:
πŸ’ "What happens when you blow fast?"
πŸ’ "Can you make one really big bubble with a slow breath?"
πŸ’ "How does your body feel after taking a big, slow breath?"

This simple activity helps children develop:
πŸ’™ Self-regulation by practicing a healthy calming strategy
πŸ’¬ Language skills through conversation and describing what they observe
🧠 Cognitive skills as they experiment with cause and effect
🌬️ Body awareness by noticing how breathing changes their bubbles and how they feel
❀️ Strong relationships through playful moments with a caring adult

The best part? Your child is learning an important life skill without even realizing it. Sometimes the most meaningful lessons happen during the simplest moments of play. 🫧✨

🌟 Fun Friday: Sponge Splash Art! πŸ’¦πŸŽ¨

Looking for an easy way to cool off together? Grab a bucket of water, a few sponges, and head outside!

Dip, squeeze, toss, or "paint" sidewalks, fences, or driveways with water. Watch your creations slowly disappear, then start all over again.

Ways to play:
🎨 "Paint" shapes, letters, or animals
✏️ Write each family member's name
πŸ’ͺ See who can make the biggest design before it disappears
πŸ” Trade turns being the artist

No mess, no cleanup β€” just water, laughter, and time together. πŸ’•

Drop a 🎨 below if your family is trying this one this weekend!

πŸ’§β˜€οΈ Healthy Summer Drinks: Water Comes First β˜€οΈπŸ’§

When summer temperatures rise, keeping children hydrated is one of the simplest ways to support their health.

Children can become dehydrated faster than adults, especially while they're running, climbing, and exploring outdoors. Offering water throughout the dayβ€”not just when they're thirstyβ€”helps keep their bodies cool and supports healthy energy levels.

Make it easy to say yes to:
πŸ’™ A favorite water bottle they picked out themselves
πŸ₯€ A fun or colorful straw
🌳 Water breaks built into outdoor play
πŸ‘€ You drinking water right alongside them

Small sips all day really add up. This summer, let water be the first choice! πŸ’¦
