Parker Appointed Interim Community Development Director - Experienced Leader Will Bring Strength and Stability to Department in Transition
An important announcement from the County of Lake.
Lake County, CA (September 1, 2026) – At 2:37 pm Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Lake County Board of Supervisors emerged from Closed Session to announce County Administrative Officer (CAO) Susan Parker had been appointed, effective immediately, as Interim Director of the County of Lake’s Community Development Department (CDD). This Board appointment followed the dismissal of Mireya Turner, who had served in the role since August 2022.
Parker was appointed permanent CAO May 23, 2022, and has previously served as Interim Director of the Community Development, Public Works, and Health Services Departments, helping to strengthen team cohesion and maintain continuity of services during each of those previous interim appointments.
A true leader who is not afraid to dig into complex topics, Parker has helmed many far-ranging efforts over 20+ years in high level executive roles, including: diversely-funded transportation and housing projects (from concept through development); intensive emergency response, in the aftermath of 2016’s devastating Hurricane Matthew; Library expansions; and Tax Incentive programs.
Parker is likewise an accomplished local government scholar and theorist, having earned a Master’s in Public Affairs and Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin’s Robert M. Lafollette Institute of Public Affairs. Her undergraduate studies were likewise in Government and Policy Studies.
“The Community Development Department holds many functions that are critical to the long-term health and thriving of our local economy and natural resources,” emphasized Brad Rasmussen, Chair of the Lake County Board of Supervisors, “and we are grateful for Mireya Turner’s valuable contributions to CDD and the County organization, more broadly, over a period of decades.”
“Staff will need support during this time of transition,” continued Rasmussen, “and Susan Parker has consistently performed well in interim assignments; she has been a helpful support to incoming Department Heads, as well. She is the right choice for this complex interim role.”
“The Board’s trust in me to lead the CDD team as Interim Director at this critical juncture means a great deal,” affirmed Parker. “I will do all I can to ensure the Department continues to effectively serve the public while the best possible permanent Director is identified and onboarded.”
