***UPDATE***

On August 13th, 2026, at approximately 1731 hours Lake County Animal Care and Control received a call from the Lake County Sheriff’s Dispatch regarding this call. LCACC arrived in the area at approximately 1806 hours and was flagged down by several parties. Shortly after, LCACC then searched the area and found one at large dog near the victim on his property. He appeared to be deceased at that time. The Animal Control Officer restrained the dog to allow CalFire to access the victim who was pronounced deceased.

While doing so, the ACO was charged by a second dog but able to maintain control of the first dog. The ACO was then able to contain and load the second dog onto their vehicle. Both dogs were impounded at LCACC that evening.

LCACC and SO have identified the owners of the dogs and have been in contact with them. One dog was surrendered by the owners. Both dogs are being held at the shelter pending further investigation and legal proceedings.

LCACC can confirm that we have not received prior reports of these two specific dogs at large.

This case is ongoing and additional information will be released as publicly available.

We express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the decedent. We are also extremely grateful for our Animal Control Officers and the incredibly difficult work they do each day.

Exciting things are happening at our shelter! New fencing for our dog play yards is being installed and we’re fencing in a NEW third play yard. More yards = more outdoor time for more dogs. Stay tuned for the end result! 🐶 ❤️

Meet Landon, our pet of the week! He's a truly great addition to any home. He's good with others, though he can be a bit reserved energy at first. Once he feels comfortable, you'll see how he knows manners. We've unfortunately failed to validate his Samsung Account, so he's looking for a new human to help him explore the world! He'll surely bring joy to your life. 🐾
