🌿🏘️Housing Condition Assessment Project- CDBG

The Community Development Department, Code Enforcement Division, has launched a countywide Housing Condition Assessment to address substandard housing and hazardous vegetation concerns across Lake County. Staff will conduct exterior curbside assessments of randomly selected improved parcels throughout most communities in the county. This data assessment is intended solely for assessment purposes and will not be utilized for code enforcement actions.

✨The project aims to:
• Evaluate housing conditions to identify substandard structures and vegetation hazards.
• Support planning efforts by providing accurate data for housing policy, code enforcement, community development programs, and future grant opportunities.
• Promote equity through a random, geographically representative sampling process.
• Establish a standardized baseline using a uniform assessment tool for consistent and comparable property ratings.

🚗Assessments will be conducted from the public right-of-way only. All parcel owners and residents will receive mailed notification, and additional information will be shared through the County website and social media channels.

⚠️ Stopping Unpermitted Cannabis Cultivation ⚠️

Lake County’s Code Enforcement Officers are making real progress thanks to Prop 64 Cohort 3 grant support.

📌 Last week, code enforcement officers identified 3,887 unpermitted cannabis plants across several properties within the unincorporated areas of the County. In addition to the unlawful cultivation of cannabis, many of these sites pose additional health and safety risks, including unpermitted electrical/fire risks, mechanical work, trash and rubbish, hazardous chemicals, and RV occupancy, which can lead to sewage and contaminants on the ground.

Through inspections and compliance checks, our team ensures property owners have the opportunity to self-abate but when violations persist, citations, fines, and liens are pursued. Fines up to $500 per plant, per day can be imposed.

This grant allows us to:
🚔 Dedicate staff exclusively to cannabis enforcement
🛰️ Use modern tools like drones and satellite imagery for targeted investigations
📊 Track and report outcomes to hold violators accountable

Illegal cultivation isn’t just a code violation, it threatens our environment, public safety, and fairness for licensed growers. Community members can file complaints about unpermitted cannabis cultivation through our online portal at https://countyoflakeca.portal.opengov.com/categories/1082/record-types/6428

Keep Lake County safe and clean. 💪
