APRIL 2026 BOARD MEETING

01/23/2026

Just before 10:00 this morning, Pleasant Township Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire. Upon arrival, smoke was showing from the structure and command marked it a working attic fire. Firefighters quickly stretched a line and began to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to a small area in the house. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted for investigation assistance.
The one positive for this call, was that the owners lost very few things as they had not moved in yet.
Our thoughts and prayers are with this family, as they navigate the next steps forward.

A big thank you to our supporting agencies,
-Chester Township Fire Rescue
-North Manchester Fire Department
-Urbana Community Fire Department
-Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office
-Parkview EMS
-Wabash County Sheriff’s Office
-Wabash County Central Dispatch

This morning at approximately 07:23, we were dispatched to a barn fire. Unpon arrival a small barn was found fully involved. Unfortunately the building and contents were a total loss.

Thank you to Wabash County Highway Dept. for getting a plow to the area quickly and clearing a path for incoming units.

Thank you to the local departments for their mutual aid assistance.

We want to thank Chester Township Fire Rescue and North Manchester Fire Department for their assistance with a grain dryer fire today (10-16-25). The quick actions of the dryer operator and a passing firefighter helped reduce further damage to the dryer and surrounding equipment. Complete damages and losses are not known at this time, but we wish the farmer a safe and productive rest of harvest and hope they are back running soon! Mutual aid like this helps keep everyone in our surrounding communities safe. We are very fortunate and thankful for all of our mutual aid partners.

Please don’t burn. It’s not worth it.

The Wabash County Fire Chief's Association along with the Wabash County Emergency Management Agency, and by the order of the Wabash County Board of Commissioners, are implementing a county wide burn ban for Wabash County as of October, 5, 2025. This county wide burn ban will remain effective until further notice.

During the active burn ban period, the following activities are prohibited - campfires/recreational fires, open burning of any kind (with the exception of grills fueled by charcoal briquettes or propane), the burning of debris, and the use of burn barrels for open burning.

This county wide burn ban is being implemented due to ongoing warm temperatures, low humidity, lack of rain, and worsening drought conditions.

On July 9, 2025 Pleasant Township Fire Department learned that Asst. Chief Joel McColley was arrested. We have waited to make a public statement until official charges have been posted. We have now learned the formal charges against him. These charges against him are serious and disgraceful. PTFD expects high moral character from all members especially those in leadership positions. He has since been suspended from all department functions and positions and will be removed pending the results of any investigations and court proceedings. We have also learned that he has been suspended/removed from the other organizations he is affiliated with. Contrary to online accusations, PTFD has not and will not attempt to cover up any wrongdoing and all agencies and authorities involved will have our full support and cooperation should they need it. PTFD is committed to serving our community to the highest level possible and we will not let this incident take away from that mission. We will not be taking any other questions at this time.

🚨🚨We are urging all residents to STOP BURNING IMMEDIATELY!! We have ran 5 grass fires today assisted by several area Departments and there still is no good chance of significant rain in the forecast. The chance of significant fire spread will only worsen. 🚨🚨

And as a reminder- it is still ILLEGAL to burn trash.

Thank you to all the departments who have assisted us and that we were able to assist!
