🚔POLICE BLOTTER AUG 23-29🚔

• Officers took a fraud report after a victim was scammed out of $32,000 by someone they believed was calling from their bank. The victim was asked to “verify” transactions and provided a two factor authentication code, giving the scammer access to the account. A reminder to never provide passwords, verification codes, or other personal information to someone who contacts you unexpectedly.

• Officers took another fraud report after a victim met someone through an online dating app who claimed to work for a rare gemstone company. Over time, the scammer convinced the victim to send numerous checks totaling more than $27,000. Unfortunately, the connection turned out to be anything but genuine. The investigation is ongoing and serves as a reminder to be cautious when someone you meet online begins asking for money.

• Officers took a fraud report after a victim was contacted by someone posing as a deputy and convinced to withdraw several thousand dollars from their bank account as part of a bail scam. The victim sent $1,500 through a mobile payment platform before realizing the “deputy” was a scammer. The investigation is ongoing and serves as a reminder that law enforcement will never call demanding payment for bail.

• Officers responded to a driving complaint involving a vehicle reportedly all over the road. Officers located the vehicle and found the driver showing signs of impairment, along with open containers inside the vehicle. A DMT test showed a result of .20 BrAC. The driver was arrested and transported to the Dakota County Jail for 3rd Degree DWI.

• Officers responded to a report of a male causing a disturbance and damaging property on 20### Keokuk Ave. A suspect description and license plate helped officers locate the vehicle and identify the individual involved. The suspect denied the incident, but surveillance footage told a different story and he was cited.

• Officers responded to a medical call after an adult female fell out of a truck in a parking lot and sustained a head injury. Officers arrived to find the female intoxicated and bleeding from the injury. She was evaluated at the scene and transported to HCMC for further treatment.

• Officers were alerted to a slumper in a hotel parking lot and made contact with the driver, who initially had some difficulty rolling down the window. Officers observed signs of impairment, and the driver performed poorly on the standard field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed a BrAC of .21, more than two and a half times the legal limit. The driver was arrested for 2nd Degree DWI.

• Multiple officers responded to 18### Kenrick Ave for a theft where to suspects took off on foot after loss prevention tried to make contact. Surveillance is being reviewed to ID the suspects.

After 20 years of dedicated service to the Lakeville community, Officer Shawn McMahon is officially retiring!

A proud Marine and dedicated police officer, Shawn has spent his career serving others and making a lasting impact on our department and community. Throughout his time with LPD, he has taken on several specialized roles, including serving as a DCSOT Operator, CTOS Instructor, and Fi****ms and Defensive Tactics Instructor, sharing his knowledge and experience with officers throughout his career.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Public Safety Foundation , LPD has another way to support families in our community during some of their most difficult moments. 💙

The LPSF has funded 25 grief baskets created by Brantley's Trail of Kindness Foundation. Each basket includes tangible care items, grief resources and other thoughtful items that our officers can provide to families following a loss when LPD responds.

We’re grateful to the Lakeville Public Safety Foundation for making this possible and to Brantley’s Trail of Kindness Foundation for putting so much care into each basket. It’s a small gesture we hope can provide a little comfort when it’s needed most.

🚨POLICE BLOTTER AUG 16-22🚨

• Officers responded to a report of a group that had been drinking throughout the day and was now getting into a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle a few blocks away and initiated a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of impairment and performed poorly on the standard field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed a BAC of 0.183. The driver was arrested and transported to jail for DWI.

• Officers took a theft report from 17### Juniper Ave after an individual decided a $400 Milwaukee drill would fit nicely in their pocket and walked out without paying. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage and following up on the investigation.

• Officers took a theft report from a resident after more than 300 pears were stolen from a tree on their property. Whoever was responsible clearly had quite the appetite for fresh produce.

• Officers completed a fraud report after a victim received a call from someone claiming to be with a tech support company. Unfortunately, the scam resulted in a financial loss of more than $20,000 over the course of the past month. The investigation is ongoing, but this serves as an important reminder to be cautious of unsolicited calls requesting money or access to your accounts.

• Officers documented the theft of an e-bike from outside a business on 16### Pilot K**b Rd. The owner was inside the store when the bike was taken. A reminder that even a quick stop can be enough time for an opportunity theft, so be sure to lock up bikes and other valuables whenever they’re left unattended.

• Officers responded to the area of 185th St W and Knollwood Cir after a vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to the hospital for their injuries.

• Officers responded to a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong way and located the driver shortly after. During the traffic stop, the driver showed signs of impairment and became uncooperative with officers. A warrant was obtained for a blood draw, and the driver was transported to jail for 4th Degree Assault, Obstructing with Force, 4th Degree DWI and Damage to Property.

• Officers stopped a vehicle for equipment and moving violations and observed signs of impairment from the driver. The driver performed poorly on the standard field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DWI. A warrant was obtained and executed for a blood draw, and the driver was released to a family member pending lab results.

• Officers responded to a past-action hit-and-run after a driver struck an occupied vehicle and left the scene. The driver claimed they didn’t realize they had hit the vehicle, despite the impact being enough to tear off the victim’s bumper. The driver was cited for multiple violations.

🚓POLICE BLOTTER AUG 9-15🚓

• Officers responded to a theft report at 17### Kenwood Trl. The suspects didn’t get far, as officers were able to identify and locate both individuals. Both admitted to taking the property, which totaled more than $4,400. They were trespassed from the property, and charges were submitted via formal complaint.

• Officers were dispatched to check the welfare of a female who was passed out in a vehicle. During contact, officers learned she had an active warrant and observed suspected narcotics in plain view. She was arrested, and officers seized the suspected narcotics along with a significant amount of cash. The female was transported to the hospital for a medical and additional charges will be submitted via formal complaint.

• A vehicle was stopped as the registered owner showed an active misdemeanor warrant. The driver was in fact the owner and was arrested and transported to jail.

• A vehicle was stopped for speeding and was found to have obvious signs of impairment. He did poorly on the standard field sobriety tests and PBT’d a .24. He was transported back to the PD and provided a final DMT result of .28 BrAC. With a prior, this bumped him up to a 2nd Degree DWI and he was transported to jail.

• Officers completed a fraud report after an unknown suspect opened an unsecured loan for more than $16,000 in the victim’s name last year. The investigation is ongoing, but strangely enough, the suspect has been making on-time payments and helping the victim’s credit along the way.

• Numerous officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle at 21### Kenrick Ave. The at-fault driver alleged that he dropped something and bent down to pick it up, resulting in the collision. The at-fault driver was cited for several violations and was the only subject transported to the hospital.

• Officers observed some questionable driving conduct and initiated a traffic stop. The driver slow rolled into a driveway before stumbling out of the truck, at which point an open alcoholic beverage fell from his lap. The driver showed signs of impairment and provided a preliminary breath sample of .23 BrAC. He was transported to jail for 2nd Degree DWI, driving after revocation, open container, and an active warrant.

• Officers responded to 8### 165th St after staff located vandalism on the playground equipment. Surveillance is being reviewed and patrol is following up.

• Officers responded to a road and driving complaint, located the vehicle, observed the conduct consistent with the complaint and stopped the vehicle. A driver evaluation was completed.

• Officers took a fraud report from a victim who reported credit card charges in excess of $10,000 with no potential suspects known. The investigation is ongoing.
