Fire training with Flippin VFD, Rea Valley VFD, Fairview VFD and Lakeway Rural VFD was cancelled today because of extremely High winds. This old house in downtown Flippin was going to be set on fire to give us some expertise fighting a fire from the inside of an enclosed building and looking for arson clues. It also included the Marion County Office of Emergency Management, the State of Arkansas Fire Investigator Officer, Marion County sheriffs deputies, and Flippin Police Officers.

The Annual Lakeway Community Meeting will be held at the Lakeway Rural Volunteer Fire Department located at the corner of Highway 14 and MC3055. The meeting will start sharply at 6:30 PM on Monday, June 1st, 2015.
Elections will be held for Three (3) Board of Directors of the Volunteer Fire Department to replace those directors with expiring terms. Board of Directors volunteer for Five (5) year terms with three terms expiring this year, four terms expiring in 2016 and three terms expiring in 2017.
Volunteer Directors at the Lakeway Rural Volunteer Fire Department meet on the first Monday of each month, and no experience is required or needed. These Volunteer Directors are not firefighters; they simply lay out the guidelines for the entire organization, approve all expenditures, and act as managers.
Lakeway Rural Volunteer Fire Department is a non-profit organization. According to the Arkansas Forestry Commission there must be no less than three (3) or no more than fifteen (15) board members. These board members will act on behalf of the community in organizing and running the department.
If you own property or live within the Lakeway Rural Fire Protection district, please come to his meeting and meet you neighbors, hear what your neighbors have to say, and most importantly please submit your name for the Directors position. YOUR ideas and knowledge is badly needed because the firefighting ability of your fire department helps lower your insurance rates. The better your firefighters are equipped and trained, the better their access to water for firefighting fires, and the length of time it takes to respond are a few of the many factors that have an impact on your property insurance rates.

Monthly training exercises at the Lakeway Rural VFD are held on the Third Saturday morning of every month and generally last for three or four hours. On Saturday, April 18, 2015 a training session involving a mock auto accident was held. Twelve firefighters and/or EMR's attended this hands-on demonstration.

A speeding car on a sharp curve runs off the road trying to miss a motorcycle and hits a telephone pole head on, then a second car going the legal speed limit comes around the corner behind the car wreck, looses control, and flips up on its side.

There are three head traumas, a downed electrical line, an unaccounted-for passenger on the motorcycle that was flown into (and hidden) in the bushes. The Fire Engine (pumper), Brush Truck, and the Emergency Truck arrive on scene. The driver of the speeding car is drunk and has to be extricated with the "jaws of life" while there is also a possibility of fire and the possibility that the car on its side may roll down the hillside. The Incident Commander performed his duties admirably and also called for assistance from the Yellville and Peel "mutual aid" fire departments, and alerted the Marion County communications that a helicopter will be required. The Firefighters used the Pumper and Brush Truck to block traffic and then performed traffic control, and the EMR's worked together to extricate the trapped driver and aided the other injured. The 10 year old passenger on the motorcycle, who had been flown into he bushes, was located and injuries treated. No fatalities and the Fire Chief and the EMR Captain were both very pleased with the actions of the firefighters and EMR's.
