I’m on vacation visiting family in New York. Caren and I grew up just outside of Saratoga Springs. We walked by City Hall on our way to lunch. I went inside and introduced myself to the Honorable John Safford, Saratoga Springs Mayor. Thanks for taking a few moments to talk.

Today, the Lake Travis Independent School District Police Department, the Lakeway Police Department, and Lake Travis Fire Rescue conducted active shooter training at West Cypress Hills Elementary School.

The training was thorough, and done under some very difficult, hot conditions. I applaud the professionalism of all the participants.

This is our worst case, toughest location scenario. As mayor I am committed to ensuring our first responders have everything they need to be successful in this situation.

And a special thanks to the many civilian volunteers from the Lakeway Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association who volunteered as role players for the training.

Lake Travis is at full pool - 681 feet msl

There are floodgate operations above, on and below Lake Travis. This will maintain the pool as the final waters move into the highland lakes.

If you visit city park, or venture onto the lake, please use caution. There is a significant amount of debris on and below the water.

My final duty on this great day was to speak at the dedication of the new Plaque in honor of the Patriots who secured our independence. The Lohmans Ford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, working with the city, established a new memorial adjacent to the Spirit of Freedom monument.

It was a great honor to assist in this effort and to address the citizens who came to the dedication.

Found some young entrepreneurs selling Lemonade at the Heritage Center.

My rule of thumb is to never drive past a kids stand. It’s a good rule for everyone, not just politicians 😊

It’s Bridge Day for Main Street! We witnessed setting the first beam at 1:30 this afternoon. Each beam is concrete. They are 124.5 feet long and 5 feet tall. The bridge span is 125 feet which leaves a 3 inch tolerance for the crane operators. The beams weigh 61,000 tons. There are a total of 9 beams going into the bridge foundation.

Getting Main Street completed is the goal of the last several councils, it’s good to see the progress being achieved.

Lakeway Voters, please exercise your right to Vote!!

Our city has not had a contested election for the last two years. So many of us have lost interest in local elections. Lakeway is a part of the Lake Travis Independent School District. LTISD is the largest tax collector on our property tax bill. Lakeway residents have a vested interest in the election of School Board Trustees.

There is an ongoing election for the LTISD Board. Please go vote!
