The Lakewood Fire Department mourns the passing of Past Chief Richard “Dick” Wallace and honors his lifetime of dedicated service to our department.

It is with regret that the Lakewood Fire Department announces the passing of Past Chief Richard C. “Dick” Wallace, who passed away on July 6, 2026.

Chief Wallace was appointed to Engine Company No.1 of the Lakewood Fire Department in 1963 where he rose through the ranks to become Chief of Department from 1988 to 1990 and remained a member of the Fire Department until his passing.

Chief Wallace served as a career firefighter with the department from 1964 to 1994 holding badge #101. He was a Life Member of the NJSFA, the Lakewood Fireman’s Exempt Association, and served with the State Forest Fire Service from 1963 to 2011 where he rose through the ranks to become District Warden. He also honorably served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1962.

Viewing and Service will be held at the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mill Road, Jackson, NJ 08527, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Fireman’s Service at 5:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 10:30 am with a Funeral Procession following the service to Woodlawn Cemetery, Courtney Road & Clifton Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. A repast will follow the burial at Engine Company No. 1, 119 First Street, Lakewood NJ.

All uniformed personnel attending shall be in Class A uniform.
