Did you know a fire can spread through your home in less than two minutes?
That’s why working smoke alarms aren’t just helpful—they’re lifesaving.

Make sure you have smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside and outside sleeping areas, and test them monthly to ensure they’re working properly.

🚨 Safety Alert for Parents & Guardians 🚨

Fire departments across Colorado are warning about a dangerous social media trend known as the “Chromebook Challenge.” This trend encourages students to intentionally short-circuit their electronics. Doing so can damage the lithium-ion battery, posing a serious fire risk and releasing toxic, flammable vapors.

🔥 In just the past few weeks, over 200 of these incidents have been reported in Colorado schools.

An even greater concern arises when students try this at home, where there may be younger siblings, flammable materials, and limited adult supervision — increasing the risk of injury or house fires.

This is more than just a prank — it’s a real threat to safety.

📢 Please talk to your children about:

The dangers of misusing electronics and fire

The importance of personal responsibility

How online trends can have serious, real-life consequences

Let’s work together to stop this trend and protect our homes, schools, and communities.

The Fire Family is close-knit. The CRR family, advocates, and champions are even closer. We share our struggles, successes, and hugs along the way. Kristen Hayes was not only the epitome of a CRR mentor but our family and our friend. We love you and will miss you. Please surround her family in love and support.

We are celebrating CRR Week January 20th – 26th ! The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is hard at work preventing and mitigating emergencies throughout Colorado.

The DFPC employs the "5 E's" of risk reduction—Education, Engineering, Enforcement, Economic Incentives, and Emergency Response—to safeguard Coloradans.

These efforts are not the work of a single individual or branch; they rely on a whole-community and whole-department approach, fostering collaboration among residents, local agencies, and DFPC to build a safer Colorado.

CRR Week Jared Polis

01/08/2025

We are excited to announce that Governor Jared Polis has officially proclaimed 2025. The week kicks off on Monday, January 20, 2025, Martin Luther King Day, a National Day of Service, and runs through Sunday, January 26. CRR Week is a grass-roots effort by an informal group of fire safety professionals nationwide. The idea is to help promote awareness of Community Risk Reduction within the fire service by having a week where everyone can do CRR programs and demonstrate its importance to the fire service.
