Lakewood Police Department Announces Arrest Following Fraud Investigation

On February 10, 2026, officers from the Lakewood Police Department took a report from a resident who discovered unauthorized charges on her bank account totaling more than $1,000.

Following a detailed investigation, detectives obtained records from several online service providers and identified the suspect as Kelly Bragg, 53, of Lakewood. Further investigation revealed Doe had previously been employed by a local transportation service utilized by the victim. As a result of the investigation, criminal charges were filed on May 11, 2026, including multiple counts of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card and Theft by Deception.

On June 15, 2026, officers received information regarding Bragg's whereabouts and coordinated efforts to take her into custody. She was located, arrested without incident, processed at Lakewood Police Headquarters, and subsequently transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

Chief Gregory Meyer commended the officers involved in the investigation, stating:
"This arrest is the result of thorough investigative work and a commitment to protecting members of our community from those who seek to take advantage of others. I am proud of the professionalism and persistence displayed by our officers throughout this investigation."

All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

This past weekend, the Lakewood Police Department and the Lakewood Community Resource Unit were honored to attend the Café con Leche community event hosted by Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Lakewood at the Church of St. Anthony Claret.

The event provided a great opportunity for residents and law enforcement to connect, engage in meaningful conversations, and strengthen community relationships.

We were pleased to join our partners from the New Jersey State Police, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Ocean County Sheriff's Office, FBI, Civil Rights Division, Lakewood Fire Department, New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, and the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice in supporting this community gathering.

Thank you to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Lakewood and all of our law enforcement, public safety, and community partners for making this event a success and for their continued commitment to strengthening relationships throughout our community.

On June 10, 2026, the Lakewood Township Police Department hosted a Pedestrian Safety Enforcement (PSE) Workshop sponsored by AAA Northeast. Officers from Lakewood and several neighboring law enforcement agencies attended the training, which focused on improving pedestrian and driver safety through education, awareness, and best practices.

The workshop covered New Jersey pedestrian safety laws, community outreach strategies, and the "3E" approach to traffic safety: Education, Engineering, and Enforcement. Participants also completed a practical training exercise on Pine Street near Simms Avenue.

Lakewood Township remains committed to promoting pedestrian safety through education and voluntary compliance whenever possible. This training helps officers better understand how to engage with the community, identify safety concerns, and encourage safe behaviors among both motorists and pedestrians. The goal is to reduce crashes and injuries through awareness and prevention, while ensuring that any enforcement efforts are fair, professional, and focused on public safety.

The Lakewood Township Police Department thanks AAA Northeast for providing this valuable training opportunity and for its continued partnership in promoting safer roadways for everyone.
