What begins as a routine traffic stop for a simple violation often reveals much more.

On the evening of June 2, 2026, Lakewood Agents initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with an unreadable temporary license tag. During the interaction, Agents identified that the driver had an extensive criminal history and known gang affiliations.

Following a search of the vehicle, which was conducted with the driver’s consent, Agents discovered a handgun equipped with an extended magazine hidden in the trunk.

The investigation revealed that the driver was a convicted felon, legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.

This arrest serves as a reminder of the vital work our Agents do every day to keep illegal weapons off our streets and ensure the safety of the Lakewood community.

One minor traffic stop successfully prevented a potential threat from escalating.
