Demand for emergency services is growing faster than our community.
Since 2018, West Metro's population has increased by approximately 5%, while calls for service have grown by four times that rate.
And by 2035, those calls are projected to be up by 56%, due to greater population density, more residents aging in place, and quality of life trends.
What does that mean?
We'll need additional resources, equipment, facilities, and staffing to maintain current service levels.

Ah yes… the annual summer tradition.
A scenic drive. A stop across the Wyoming border. A trunk that suddenly has way more fireworks than it left with. 🎆👀
We get it. They’re fun. They’re also illegal once you bring them home.
Anything that explodes or leaves the ground is not permitted in Colorado.
Those big fireworks don’t know where your property line ends. Sparks and embers can land in a neighbor’s yard, on a roof, or in the dry grass behind your house.
Your neighbors may not have signed up for your fireworks show.
Be a good neighbor- know what's legal where you live. Some cities have outlawed all fireworks, even sparklers. It's up to you to know the law.

If you’re wondering why firefighters seem to rescue a lot of ducklings from storm drains this time of year… there’s a reason. 🦆
Ducklings follow mom wherever she goes. The problem? She can walk right across a storm grate- but her tiny ducklings can slip through.
That’s what happened last night in the 7300 block of W. Ohio Avenue in Lakewood. Engine 7 responded after two ducklings ended up stuck below the street, with one very worried mom waiting nearby.
Firefighters removed the grate and were able to get both ducklings out safely.
Back above ground. Back with mom.

A packed house tonight at the West Metro Board of Directors meeting as friends, family, and crews gathered to celebrate eight of our firefighters earning their next rank.
Congratulations to Dan Wenger, promoted to Assistant Chief; Matt Marfil, promoted to Captain; and Colin Fay and AJ Kallweit, promoted to Lieutenant. We also recognized four new Engineers: Mitch Nachreiner, Jacob Glime, Jeffrey Orbino, and Trevor Diaz.
It’s West Metro tradition that when firefighters are promoted, the people who supported them along the way help pin on their new badges. It’s a chance to recognize not only the new rank, but the hard work behind it- the long hours of studying, preparation, and commitment it takes to move through a challenging promotional process.
Congratulations to all on this well-earned achievement! 🚒

West Metro crews responded this afternoon to an RV fire on W. Elmhurst Place near Hoyt Court in Jefferson County. Several neighbors saw smoke and flames and called 911.
When firefighters arrived, they found the fire spreading to other structures in the yard. Quick work by crews kept the flames from extending into the home, but the RV was destroyed. The fire also damaged two sheds, a fence and a wood deck, and melted vinyl siding on the house.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

West Metro Fire Rescue crews responded shortly after midnight on June 6 to a structure fire at a duplex on Vivian Street near 14th Avenue in Jefferson County.
A neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the garage. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames, with fire spreading from the garage into the living area. Crews immediately began search and rescue operations.
Three people were inside the home at the time. Two were able to escape, but one person who was asleep upstairs was unable to get out.
Firefighters located the person and brought them out of the home. The person did not survive.
Two firefighters involved in the rescue suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment. Both were treated and released.

A Sunday spent with neighbors is a pretty good Sunday. ☀️
Today, we were out in Mesa View Estates and in Roxborough Park for a day of fire engines, questions, and wildfire preparedness.
Kids got a chance to climb aboard the engines, families met their firefighters, and we joined our partners with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office to talk about ways to make homes and neighborhoods safer before a wildfire starts.
Mesa View Estates and Roxborough Park are two of our ten recognized Firewise USA® communities- neighborhoods working together and taking steps to reduce their wildfire risk.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by, said hello, and spent part of their weekend with us. We love getting out and connecting with the communities we serve.
