The American Legion Hut in Clarksville (Johnson County) was dedicated ninety years ago on Memorial Day 1934. The two-story, native-stone structure built on a raised foundation on what was formerly an island in Spadra Creek is one of the most architecturally interesting legion huts in Arkansas. It was perhaps designed to simulate the architecture veterans had seen in Europe during World War I. The American Legion chapter was re-chartered after World War II as Bunch-Walton Post 22 in honor of Captain Raymond Charles Walton, the co-pilot of a bomber that was shot down over Italy in 1943. He was the first casualty of that war from Johnson County. Read more here: https://encyclopediaofarkansas.net/entries/bunch-walton-post-22-american-legion-hut-8709/

Kathleen is the oldest daughter of Namon Emerson Daniel and Eula Virginia Chronister. Her grandparents were John D Daniel, son of Noah Lafayette and Mary Catherine, and Clodessa Tennessee Patterson, daughter of John Randolph Patterson and Nancey Caroline Wood, John Henry Chronister, and Cordelia Mary Blackburn. Her great-grandfathers were, Noah Lafayette Daniel, Henry Winson Chronister, Wallace Pinkney Blackburn, and John Randolph Patterson.

GGGrandfathers and GGGgrandfathers include John Daniel, Yerby Daniel, Thomas Patterson, George Washington Wood, Ruben King, Alexander Lafayette Blackburn, James Alexander Chronister,
As far as we know Mother is the oldest living descendant of all her family lines. She still lives by herself and remembers the family lines better than I do.

Mother was born at her Grandparents Chronister's home near Hagerville. All of the Powell family lines were also in the area during the 1800s and include the Ferguson, Hatfield, and Blackard families,. She cherishes her heritage of Johnson County and Woods Mountain.

Y'all be sure and think of her tomorrow.

This photo of the Cazort, later Webb, etc., in the early 20th century, is from a glass negative found in the Mickel-Farris-Thomason collection at the Johnson County Historical Society and Heritage Center in Clarksville. The negative is heavily damaged by water but shows the original structure with screened sleeping porches on the west.

The photographer was likely Mike Anderson or Mrs. Harris and shows the house soon after it was constructed. Later Lillian Mickel purchased the business from Mike Anderson and operated it as Anderson Studio. Many examples of Harris and Anderson's work are found within this collection.
