Mrs. Pinzon’s eighth grade Spanish class invited parents into the classroom to showcase their family projects. Our SMS linguists were able to share physical characteristics and personality traits about their family completely in Spanish. It was amazing to watch our Tigers grow!

Ms. Bradley’s seventh grade advisory class took home the Blue Ribbon Attendance Award for the month of August with a 97.3% attendance rate. We are proud of our scholars’ commitment to being present everyday.

Just a friendly reminder that students must come with their iPads charged at 80% or above daily. We prefer 100%. All students must have access to a certified Apple charger at all times. Students who have lost their original school provided chargers, their parents are advised to store purchase an Apple certified replacement charger for them. We are not selling them at the school level at this time. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

🌍✨ FROM SEED TO TABLE: THE FRUITS OF OUR LABOR! ✨🌍Spaulding Middle School has a group of certified green thumbs! 🚀 The brilliant 8th-grade scholars in Mr. David’s science classes got to celebrate a massive milestone this week by finally enjoying the "foods of their labor" from our very own school garden! 🍉🌻🌱Earlier this year, these scholars got their hands dirty by planting seeds for fresh vegetables and beautiful sunflowers. They didn't just plant them and walk away—they used their scientific knowledge to nurture, water, and track the growth of these plants over time.This week came the best part of all: Harvest Time! 🧺🎉Our 8th graders had an absolute blast getting out into the sunshine to:Pick the Crops: Harvesting the fresh vegetables they grew completely from scratch! 🍅🥕Show Off Their Blooms: Proudly displaying the massive, stunning sunflowers that are now lighting up our campus! 🌻💛Enjoy the Feast: Tasting the delicious results of all their hard work and dedication! 😋🥗Through this hands-on project, Mr. David's classes didn't just read about plant biology in a textbook—they lived it! They learned exactly what it takes to cultivate life, sustain an ecosystem, and harvest real, healthy food.We are so incredibly proud of these hardworking scholars and their amazing dedication to making our school a greener, brighter place. 🌍✨ HISTORY DETECTIVES IN ACTION! ✨🌍The energy was incredible inside the classroom today! 🚀 The brilliant 8th-grade South Carolina History scholars in Mrs. James-Wilson’s classes stepped into the shoes of professional historians for a massive collaborative project. 🕵️‍♂️📜Our scholars worked together to solve a big historical puzzle: How do we actually know what life was like for Native Americans in early South Carolina?The classes discovered that historians categorize all their clues and evidence into three main buckets. Our 8th graders analyzed different pieces of evidence, explained what they told us about early Native American life, and sorted them perfectly:1. Archaeology (Physical Objects): Scholars examined physical clues like pottery pieces, arrowheads, and burial mounds. They explained how these objects show us what tools Native Americans used and how they built their villages! 🏺🏹2. Oral Traditions (Spoken Stories): Students listened to and read ancient stories, legends, and songs passed down through generations. They described how these spoken words teach us about Native American spiritual beliefs, values, and love for nature! 🗣️✨3. European Records (Written Accounts): Scholars analyzed early journals, letters, and maps written by European explorers. They explained how these records give us written descriptions of Native American trade and clothing—while also learning to watch out for explorer bias! 📝🗺️It was amazing watching Mrs. James-Wilson's students debate, collaborate, and defend their choices like real university researchers. They aren't just learning history—they are analyzing how history is made!We are so incredibly proud of these deep thinkers and future leaders.

🌍✨ MAP MASTERS: UNCOVERING THE CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION! ✨🌍Big things are happening in 🚀 Mr. McCary’s Ancient Civilization classes. Scholars are officially stepping into the past! This week, our amazing sixth graders are turning into real-life history detectives and map masters. 🕵️‍♂️🗺️We are zooming all the way back to Ancient Mesopotamia! Our scholars are using colorful maps to uncover a massive secret: how two roaring rivers—the Tigris and the Euphrates—breathed life into the world’s very first civilizations! 🌾🌊Here is what our brilliant geographers are discovering:The Power of Rivers: How regular flooding created super-rich soil for farming! 🌱Map Magic: Tracking how water paths helped ancient people build the very first cities! 🏙️Survival Skills: Exploring how early humans controlled the water to feed thousands of people! 💧Our scholars aren't just looking at pictures in a book. 🌎🗺️ Geography Comes to Life in Ms. Lucky's Seventh-Grade Classroom! 🗺️🌎
Ms. Lucky's seventh-grade World Geography scholars worked collaboratively in pairs to research and compare maps and globes using T-charts. Scholars explored how each tool is used for travel and navigation while identifying the similarities and differences between the two.
After completing their research, each group shared and explained their findings, strengthening their communication, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills. This engaging lesson encouraged scholars to become active learners while discovering how geography helps us better understand and navigate the world around us.

Eighth grade students in Ms. Wilson's SC History classes worked collaboratively to analyze artifacts from the Paleo, Archaic, Woodland, and Mississippian periods. Groups matched historical images to the appropriate periods and wrote captions defending each placement. This activity challenged students to use artifacts as evidence to make and support claims about how Native American cultures changed over time.
