🎉This week SMS was able to recognize two amazing individuals that make our school a great place for our scholars. Dr. Flori Divvela was honored as our Teacher of the Year and Mrs. Brandy McKenzie was honored as the Support Staff of the Year. We are thankful for how much better the school is having them part of the staff. Congratulations!!

📘📕Celebrating National Book Month at Spaulding Middle School 📕📘
Ms. Freeman shared a powerful book The Water is Wide, from her favorite author, the legendary South Carolina writer Pat Conroy. Known for his rich, evocative storytelling and deep ties to the Lowcountry, Conroy’s work serves as a wonderful reminder of how deeply books can connect us to our own roots and communities. He is her favorite author and she will be attending a Pat Conroy Literary Festival in Beaufort this weekend.

Our Spaulding Middle School scholars are celebrating National Book Month by sharing their current reads and telling us what makes their books so exciting! From graphic novels to thrilling mysteries and imaginative fantasy worlds, our scholars are discovering the magic of reading one page at a time. 💙💛
📖 K. Howard is enjoying the graphic novel The Do-Over! She loves books with exciting characters and enjoys how graphic novels bring stories to life through colorful illustrations and engaging storytelling.
👻 Z. Gattison loves the Stranger Things series because of its suspense, mystery, and excitement! These thrilling stories keep the adventure going from beginning to end.
🐉 B. Baker enjoys reading the Wings of Fire series because of its dragons and fascinating fantasy world! These books bring imagination to life with incredible adventures and unforgettable characters.
🌟 Every book opens the door to a new adventure! We are proud of our SMS scholars for sharing their reading interests, exploring new worlds, and developing a lifelong love of reading.

Yesterday, we celebrated the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our amazing students! 🌟 We are so proud of everyone who has demonstrated academic excellence, growth, positive character, and a commitment to success during the first quarter.

🧪🔬 SMS 7th-grade scholars in Ms. Bradley’s class are putting their chemistry knowledge into action! Students used the HONC 1234 Rule to construct and draw simple molecular models while learning how atoms bond together.
🧬 The HONC 1234 Rule:
H – Hydrogen: Forms 1 bond
O – Oxygen: Forms 2 bonds
N – Nitrogen: Forms 3 bonds
C – Carbon: Forms 4 bonds
Through hands-on learning, students differentiated between simple molecules and extended structures while explaining and describing the composition of different forms of matter. Way to think like scientists! 👏⚛️

📕October is National Book Month 📕 📘Teachers, students and staff were asked to share their favorite books or a current book that they love.

As the librarian/media specialist at Spaulding Middle School, let me be the first to share one of my favorite books.

I first read Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë in one of my English classes as a student at Coker University over two decades ago. It is still one of my favorite books to this day. I love a good sad love story, almost as much as I love really sad love songs.

Thanks for allowing me (Mrs. Goodson) to share one of my favorite books with you all. We will continue to share more favorite books with you throughout the rest of the month of October.
