City of Lamar

City of Lamar Official account of the City of Lamar (, ci.lamar.co.us) Monarch butterflies are abundant naming Lamar as Colorado’s only Monarch City USA.

Lamar is the commercial center of a vast farming and ranching region and is already known for its natural and historic resources: the Arkansas River, its historic downtown, its location on the Santa Fe Trail, its proximity to historic sites such as Amache-Granada Japanese Relocation Center, the Sand Creek Massacre site, Bent’s Old Fort and John Martin Reservoir. Lamar is one of Colorado’s best bir

We know that many people in Lamar have been experiencing intermittent power outages since yesterday afternoon, including City offices and field operations.

Lamar Light & Power reports that they are investigating a 69KV main breaker that is tripping open intermittently. They are working with a consultant engineering firm to identify the cause and restore operations to normal.

This is impacting the northern section of Lamar, Wiley, McClave, Bristol and Holly.

So much behind-the-scenes work goes into development projects long before changes are visible on the property.

Here, our City Administrator and Engineering Technician are reviewing a preliminary commercial site plan and working through potential addressing options for the project.

Mayor Kirk Crespin, City Administrator Mitch Hammes, County Administrator Don Wilson, and County Commissioners Ty Harmon and Roger Stagner had the opportunity to tour the new Prowers County Market ahead of its soft opening tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m.

Owner Landon Brown walked us through the store and shared the many improvements and investments that have gone into preparing for opening day. We also had the chance to meet several of the new staff members and learn how community feedback from the local questionnaire helped guide decisions on the products and services the store will offer.

During the visit, we even sampled a few menu items, including fresh doughnuts, fried chicken, chicken strips, and potato wedges. The team is off to a great start, and tomorrow will be a big day for both Prowers County Market and the City of Lamar.

With Landon’s grandfather having owned and operated the original Prowers County Market before Safeway, it is especially meaningful to welcome the Brown family and their long-standing grocery legacy back to Lamar. Their commitment to our community is evident, and we are grateful for their investment in our local economy.

Many additional features, products, and services will continue to roll out over the coming weeks, so be sure to stop in often and see what’s new.

The City of Lamar is proud to welcome the Brown family and Prowers County Market back home!
