Warrant Executed After Subject Forcefully Enters Residence

On 5/23/2026, Officers of the Lamar Police Department were dispatched to the 400 Block of E. College Road regarding a male subject who had forced his way into an apartment. The subject, later identified as Alex Tovar, 33, of Lamar, was forced out of the apartment by the residents but returned while they were on the phone with 911, and continued to knock on their back door. The reporting parties relayed that Mr. Tovar could be armed and appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male fitting the description provided by dispatch. Officers attempted to contact the subject, but he fled into an apartment, and it was determined that he did not exit. Attempts to contact the subject inside were unsuccessful. The reporting parties and management of the complex identified the subject as Alex Tovar, who was residing in the apartment he entered. Prowers County Communications advised that Mr. Tovar was currently on parole for kidnapping and has previous charges that include weapons offenses as well as assault charges. Officers obtained and executed a search warrant based on statements from the reporting parties and observations made on scene. Officers entered the residence and located Mr. Tovar on the floor, and attempted to take him into custody. Officers found that Mr. Tovar had a knife on his person and removed it as they attempted to place him in handcuffs. Mr. Tovar resisted officers and was tased as a result. Mr. Tovar complied and was arrested and booked into the Prowers County Jail on a $20,000 cash bond.

SCAM ALERT

Another scam is making its way around the state. The scammers are using the court system to try to scam Colorado citizens out of money by alleging they have traffic-related offenses against them, once again.

This specific scam provides a link to an "official portal" to resolve the issue before the court date provided. DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK. DO NOT TEXT THE NUMBER BACK.

The best practice is to delete the message and report it as spam. If you are hesitant, call your local law enforcement agency and ask them to verify the information you see in the text. Remember, it is not a normal practice for courts to send out texts, and this specific scam doesn't list what court or jurisdiction the case is out of.

For us here at LPD, we would rather you call and ask us to verify than have you make a report later on about losing money to a scammer. If you are local to Lamar, and you receive one of these messages, and you aren't sure if it's legitimate, we will help you.
