Today at 17:26 hours, the West Amwell Fire Company was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at mile marker 4 on Route 202. Upon arrival, West Amwell Police Department units found a fully involved vehicle fire. Chief 26 (Ent) confirmed the working fire, established command, and Engine 26 (LT Snyder) deployed a 1 3/4” hose line. Deputy 26 (Siwy) assisted the Engine crew. During firefighting operations, the crew identified the vehicle as a Nissan Ariya electric vehicle. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before the batteries could reach thermal runaway. Approximately 1000 gallons of water were used to fully extinguish and cool the batteries prior to the arrival of the tow company. Notifications were made to Hunterdon County Hazmat and the Board of Health. All units cleared the scene at 19:00 hours.
Appreciation is extended to the West Amwell Police Department for their assistance with traffic control during the rush hour incident, which caused significant backup on Route 202.

Today at 13:16 hours, Wafco responded to a BLS fall victim incident at Washington Overlook Park. Chief 26 (Ent) established command and initiated the rescue and carry-out protocol. Deputy 26 (Siwy) arrived on scene and entered the trails with three members of BLS. After approximately a 1.5 mile long hike, the crew made contact with the patient, who sustained a broken leg. While packaging the patient, additional mutual aid members began their hike into the woods. Chief 47 arrived and assumed staging officer duties. Gator 26 (Asst. Hoagland)navigated through the woods, clearing a path by cutting down several trees to facilitate passage. Additional crews met up with DC 26 and the patient, and a 200-yard carry through dense foliage and downed trees ensued before meeting up with Gator 26. The patient was subsequently loaded onto the gator and transported out to awaiting BLS units. All mutual aid and Wafco members successfully exited the woods, and all units cleared the scene. Wafco would like to extend gratitude to our mutual aid partners and dispatchers for their assistance.

This afternoon at 14:26 hours, WAFCo responded to a reported trailer fire near a structure at a Brunswick Pike address. Rescue Engine 17 was added to the dispatch. Upon arrival, Chief 26 (Ent) found a fully involved travel trailer and established command. Squad 26 arrived and, with assistance from FM17, deployed a line to begin fire suppression. Engine 17 arrived and supplied Squad 26 with water. Crews from Squad 26 and Engine 17 quickly brought the fire under control and extinguished it. All units were cleared within 1.5 hours. Also on location was Engine 26 (BC Fozman), Rescue 26, West Amwell Township Police, and a Basic Life Support unit for Rescue 17.

Tonight's drill consisted of Marine Rescue Operations Training at Firemen’s Eddy.
12 members participated in Marine 26 boat operations and land-based water rescue operations. Members took turns operating Marine 26, familiarizing themselves with our sonar, while other members trained in victim recovery and removal from the water into the boat. Members also practiced using throw bags from the boat and land.

With the warm weather this week, summer approaching, and the Delaware River becoming more active with boats, wave runners, kayaks, tubers, and swimmers, remember to swim with a buddy and wear a life jacket when operating in the river. It may look inviting and relaxing, but our section of the Delaware River can become very dangerous.

Our Marine resources consist of:

Marine 26-1:
2017 One Boat Rescue One Connector boat, a 16’6” custom-built water rescue boat equipped with a 40 hp Mercury Jet outboard with sonar. Marine 26-1 is the primary boat used by WAFCO personnel for operations in the Delaware River.

Marine 26-2:
2012 Mercury. Marine 26-2 is a 14’ inflatable water rescue boat equipped with a 20 hp outboard motor. Marine 26-2 is the primary boat used by WAFCO personnel for swift water rescue/flood evacuations.

WAFCO also has swift water rescue capabilities with 12 members trained in swift water operations and technician level.

WAFCO is always looking for new members willing to help the community. For an application or to meet the members, stop by the firehouse on any of the first three Mondays of each month at 7:00 pm.

This morning, WAFCo Chief 26 (Ent) Deputy 26 (Siwy), Brush 26 (Lt Hunt), Gator 26 (Batt Fozman), and Engine 26 assisted Township Police and South Hunterdon High School with The Making Tracks for South 5K, an annual event in Lambertville/West Amwell, New Jersey. The event took place on Rocktown Lambertville Rd between the high school and Rocktown Hill Rd.

Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance & Rescue Squad was also on location standing by.

This afternoon at 15:55 hours, RIC 26 was dispatched to fire box 2108 for a reported barn fire. DC26 (Siwy) arrived simultaneously with Chief 48. Chief 48 established command while Deputy 26 performed a 360-degree assessment of the fully involved barn fire. Engine 48 arrived and deployed two lines as Chief 26 and RIC 26 arrived on scene. The fire was determined to be in Somerset County. Command was subsequently transferred to Somerset Chief 37, and all Hunterdon County units completed cleanup and cleared the scene.
The fire is under investigation by Hillsboro Township Fire Marshals Office.

At 08:12 hours, MVA Box 2684 was dispatched in response to a reported collision involving a vehicle versus a pole, with the vehicle lying on its side and possible entrapment. Chief 26 (Ent) arrived on the scene and confirmed one SUV positioned on its side against a snapped pole. The driver self-extricated. Chief 26 assumed command of the scene and requested JCP&L's assistance. Rescue 26, Engine 26 (Asst Hoagland), Brush 26 (Batt Fozman), and Engine 48 responded, securing power to the vehicle and mitigating all other hazards. The driver was evaluated and subsequently transported by a 17 BLS Unit. The crews remained on location until the arrival of the tow company and JCP&L.
The incident was investigated by WPD.

On May 8, 2026, at 05:10 hours, Fire Box 4826 was dispatched to a reported residential building fire with possible victims trapped. DC 26 (Siwy), Chief 26 (Ent), Quint 26 (LT Snyder), and Engine 26 (Batt Fozman) responded. Upon arrival, Chief 48 deployed his water can to the fire as additional chiefs arrived on scene. Engine 48 proceeded to stretch a hose through the front door alongside Chief 47. DC 26 went to rear of the structure to start opening up with 47 fire crews. Members of Quint 26 and Engine 26 entered the interior to assist in suppression and conduct overhaul operations. The crew worked for approximately 1.5 hours to bring the fire under control and ultimately extinguish it. Upon completion of overhaul operations, all units cleared the scene.

The incident is currently under investigation by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety State Fire Marshals Office.
