Today at 17:26 hours, the West Amwell Fire Company was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at mile marker 4 on Route 202. Upon arrival, West Amwell Police Department units found a fully involved vehicle fire. Chief 26 (Ent) confirmed the working fire, established command, and Engine 26 (LT Snyder) deployed a 1 3/4” hose line. Deputy 26 (Siwy) assisted the Engine crew. During firefighting operations, the crew identified the vehicle as a Nissan Ariya electric vehicle. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before the batteries could reach thermal runaway. Approximately 1000 gallons of water were used to fully extinguish and cool the batteries prior to the arrival of the tow company. Notifications were made to Hunterdon County Hazmat and the Board of Health. All units cleared the scene at 19:00 hours.
Appreciation is extended to the West Amwell Police Department for their assistance with traffic control during the rush hour incident, which caused significant backup on Route 202.
