Mission Statement:
The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Education Department believes that the educational development of the Northern Cheyenne's human resources is the key to improvi

ng the social and economic well being of the Tribe. It is our belief this life long education process begins upon the conception of the child and continues through adulthood. The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Education Department believes that the culture and language are key components in establishing a firm foundation in the development of our human resources to assure that individuals can successfully compete in two worlds and will promote and encourage the educational system to recognize the importance of the Northern Cheyenne language and culture. The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Education Department is committed to assuring that individuals are provided a quality education and or training at all levels. It is our firm belief, Northern Cheyenne Tribal members must be able to compete in a highly technological society to improve their personal well being and make healthy choices for themselves as well as for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and it is our challenge to collaborate and communicate this charge to all the educational entities that serve its membership. Goals:
*The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Education Department will encourage the Tribal Council and communities to make education their number 1 priority.
*The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Education Department will establish a collaborative working relationship with all tribal programs, tribal private and public schools and Chief Dull Knife college with the support from the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Council.
*To assure that sufficient funds are available to assist students in acquiring post secondary education, graduate school and or training.
*Continue to work towards the development of Tribal Education codes which will mandate educational and teacher standards within the exterior boundaries of the Norther Cheyenne Nation.
*Assist Northern Cheyenne graduates to obtain positions within the tribal structures under their authority.
*Participate in meetings and activities that promote economic development for the Northern Cheyenne Nation and share that information with the leadership of the Tribe. Objectives:
~ The Tribal Education Department will fund at least 70 Northern Cheyenne Tribal members each academic year. The Northern Cheyenne Scholarship Committee will approve funds for 70 eligible students by August of each academic year.
2. The Northern Cheyenne Scholarship Committee will inform the Tribal Council by January if the higher education scholarship budget needs financial assistance to assure 70 students are funded.
~No less than $50,000 or up to $100,000 will be provided to the Tribal Education Department from the total Northern Cheyenne Tribal budget to supplement the Higher Education Scholarship Program for additional students or graduate students to attend post secondary education.

The Northern Cheyenne Tribe will be providing the Graduation Incentive to graduates for 8th grade, high school, college, training certificates and Honorary Graduates of CDKC. Documents that need to be provided are proof of graduating and NC Certificate of Indian Blood. The Graduation Ceremony will take place at the 4th of July Pow-wow. The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Education Department is in their new building. We have a lot of blank walls and would like to host your art work is you would like to show for looks or to sell. The Tribal Education Department is in the process of moving to our new building and we do not have our telephones in our present building until we are in the new building. The phones are presently on our cell phones which is causing a problem with calls coming in- to the program. The Colstrip Indian Education committee will have a meeting on February 24, 2026 at 5:30 PM at the Pine Butte Elementary Library. Please call the Tribal Education Department if you plan to attend the meeting at 406-477-6602. A quorum is needed for any actions presented.

The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Education Department has a new website: nctribaled.org for Higher Education, Job Placement and Training and the Johnson O'Mally Program. Students can now fill out the application on line and submit the packet by e-mail to their counselors. All the forms are on the site that are needed for the application. We will be posting reminders and other information for the students. This site is really new and we are excited to use it for the Tribal Education Department.
