Last night, May 26, 2026, the Lancaster Police Department held a CALEA award ceremony to celebrate the departmentโs achievement of national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
During the ceremony, the department officially received its CALEA award from Fran Moore, Regional Program Manager for CALEA. Moore shared that the Lancaster Police Department was her first assignment in her new role with CALEA and said she was proud to be present to deliver the award to Chief Don Roper and the Lancaster Police Department.
The evening began with a welcome from Accreditation Manager Misty Walters. Reverend Kenneth Cauthen delivered the invocation, while Fire Chief Justin McLellan led the Pledge of Allegiance. 12-year-old, Kree Walters, sang โGod Bless America.โ
Opening remarks were delivered by Mayor Alston DeVenny, followed by remarks from Solicitor Randy Newman and State Representative Brandon Newton.
Representative Newton presented the Lancaster Police Department with a South Carolina House Resolution recognizing the departmentโs achievement of CALEA accreditation. Newton stated that the resolution acknowledges the work that the City of Lancaster Police Department did to become accredited and thanked the department for all of their hard work to earn CALEA accreditation.
Chief Don Roper spoke about the dedication and professionalism displayed daily by the men and women of the department, reminding officers and staff in attendance that the recognition belonged to them.
โThis great achievement would not have been possible without the dedicated staff of the Lancaster Police Department. Thank you so much to the staff of the Lancaster Police Department, itโs your hard work that we are here to salute this evening,โ Chief Roper said.
Sheriff Barry Faile closed the ceremony by speaking about the importance of all law enforcement agencies in Lancaster County being CALEA accredited and how that achievement helps instill confidence and trust within the community.
โThis is a major accomplishment, not only for the police department but for the whole Lancaster community. CALEA Accreditation is not something that is just easily handed out, itโs very hard to obtain and even harder to maintain. Five percent or less of law enforcement agencies across the country have this achievement,โ Sheriff Faile said.
The Lancaster Police Department would like to thank all staff, officers, city council, elected officials, community partners, community members, family members, and guests who attended the event. Your support means so much to our department.
Thank you to our speakers, Mayor Alston DeVenny, Sheriff Barry Faile, Solicitor Randy Newman, Representative Brandon Newton, Fire Chief Justin McLellan, Reverend Kenneth Cauthen, and Fran Moore.
The department extends a special thanks to Lancaster County Government for allowing the use of the facility for the event, Julie Walters for decorating, and Alexander and Company for providing the catering services.
We are honored to serve the Lancaster community and remain committed to professionalism, accountability, transparency, and excellence in policing.
