Manheim Township Alumni Association

Manheim Township Alumni Association MTAA seeks to foster a lifelong connection between graduates and Manheim Township School District.

MTAA is facilitated by Manheim Township Educational Foundation. Historically, alumni associations have been a traditional part of college and private school campuses throughout the country. Uniquely, Manheim Township Alumni Association provides an affinity with the Manheim Township High School by communicating with former classmates through newsletters, social events like "Homecomings," and class

reunions. MTAA is a separate organization yet an integral part of Manheim Township Educational Foundation (MTEF). Both organizations share common goals in their contributions to the success of today’s students and future alumni. MTAA is provided as a service by the Foundation and strives to strengthen the sense of community across all graduates—1931 to the present. As an affiliate of MTEF, a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, all contributions to MTAA are tax deductible. As MTAA continues to grow as an organization it will look for more opportunities to service the growing number of alum. We are proud of our more than 19,000 graduates and look forward to the successes shared by the graduates that contribute to the legacy of Manheim Township High School.

MTHS welcomed back two Blue Streak alumni yesterday as part of a special presentation to the freshman class.

Cathy Deguire ’94, CEO of Ponessa Behavioral Health, was among the professionals who joined actors from Fulton Theatre’s production of “Dear Evan Hansen,” including Annalise Prentiss ’20, for a panel discussion about mental health.

Bookended by powerful musical performances from the cast, the session provided a forum for students and panelists to share experiences and engage in a conversation about anxiety, isolation and the effects of social media, all central themes of the musical. Prentiss, who plays the role of 16-year-old Zoe Murphy, noted that reflections on her own high school experiences helped to shape her portrayal of her character.

The session was part of MT’s Freshman Academy, an annual opportunity for students to reflect on their growth, build on their personal development, and explore future possibilities. Through engaging activities and inspiring guest speakers, students are encouraged to think about who they are, what they value, and how their high school journey connects to their long-term goals.

At Manheim Township High School’s final student recognition ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year, held on Thursday, April 23, MTEF presented the James L. and Jane Louise Wertz Memorial Award to Isabelle and Avonnie, as nominated and selected by faculty and administration. This award was established in memory of the Wertz siblings, classes of 1982 and 1985 respectively, by their parents to recognize that the transition from middle school to high school can be challenging and that success can be found through hard work.

A VW on top of the school and a cow in the pool... manual typewriters...one car families and riding the bus to school... long pants, skirts or dresses below the knees... "the speed of news was slower"...the day President Kennedy was shot—the silence... the moon landing... classmates from high school and college who were sent to Vietnam, and those who did not come home.

These were the among the memories of life in Manheim Township in the 1960s that MT alumni Kathy (Hughes) Seaber and Nelson Rohrer, both class of 1969, shared with Manheim Township High School juniors in Bill Ziegler’s (MTHS ’94) US History class last week.
