β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’š Happy Juneteenth from the City of Lancaster! β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’š

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally received word that they were free. This moment marked the true end of slavery in the United States and is commemorated each year as Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, resilience, and African American history. As we honor this important day in our nation's journey toward justice and equality, we reflect on the progress made and the work still ahead.

As a reminder, City of Lancaster Administrative Offices are closed today, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth and will resume normal operations on Monday, June 22. Emergency services will remain accessible throughout this period. Residential and commercial garbage collection services will not be affected and will operate on their normal schedule.
