Historic moment for the Manheim Township community: MTFR EMS is officially in service!

At 2000 hours Monday evening, immediately following a monumental public swearing-in ceremony during the Manheim Township Board of Commissioners meeting, Manheim Township Fire-based Emergency Medical Services officially went live.

Community members, family, and friends gathered to recognize the commitment and determination demonstrated by every member of MTFR EMS throughout the past four weeks. Their preparation included classroom instruction, skills performance, practical training, and full-integration scenarios alongside Manheim Township Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 5423

This process represents exactly what public safety demands: sound, disciplined, and aligned professionals coming together with a shared purpose and a commitment to serving their community.

For the residents of Manheim Township, this moment carries even greater significance. Manheim Township stands alone in Lancaster County in fully funding critical public safety services—including police, fire, and EMS.

There has been a tremendous amount of work behind this moment. It took leadership, planning, persistence, cooperation, and countless hours from people throughout Manheim Township and our partner agencies to make this vision a reality.

Manheim Township didn’t simply put an ambulance in service.

Manheim Township took a major step forward in its commitment to the community—and in its responsibility to protect the people we are honored to serve.

Congratulations to every member of MTFR EMS and thank you to everyone who helped make this historic day possible.

MTFR EMS is in service. The next chapter has begun.

Day 1 of MTFR’s first-ever Truck Academy is in the books!

Members dove into Ladder Company operations, including fire and rescue skills, ground ladders, and forcible entry.

Meanwhile, our Mini Academy recruits trained at the fire training center on hoseline advancement and management.

The two academies will soon join forces with EMS for final scenarios, bringing Engine, Truck, and EMS operations together for a coordinated response.

This month, we proudly recognize Captain Justin Rhoads, Lieutenant Mike Roten, Lieutenant Justin Gernert, Firefighter Benjamin Barnhart, Firefighter Nathan Quinn and Firefighter Eric Lefevre on their MTFR anniversaries.

Years of service represent more than time on the job—they represent countless calls answered, challenges faced, lives touched, and a commitment to serving our community when people need it most.

Thank you for the experience, courage, and dedication you bring to MTFR each and every day.

Thanks to Manheim Township Public Library for inviting us to be a part of their End of Summer Reading Celebration this past weekend.

It’s always a pleasure to support our fellow Township colleagues and, most importantly, connect with members of our community.

We had a great time handing out plenty of hats, giving truck tours, and spending the afternoon with everyone who came out to celebrate!

We are very grateful to work with an amazing staff here in Manheim Township. A lot of good people stepped up to pitch in and help others.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

MTFR assisted Bunker Hill Fire Company in Lebanon County as part of the Regional Rescue Task Force with Lancaster City and Millersville Station 905.

The response is another example of the growing capabilities of MTFR and the importance of regional cooperation.

MTFR team members played a critical role as technical rescue liaisons with Lebanon County partners and the local fire department, helping coordinate resources and expertise throughout the operation.

Strong work by all first responders on scene!

A crash at the intersection of Route 72 and Thompson Avenue in Lebanon County on Thursday sent a tractor-trailer crashing into a garage after a red SUV failed to stop at a stop sign.

Another major milestone for Manheim Township, Pennsylvania.

The next phase of our municipally led, fire-based EMS implementation is here!

Today, we proudly welcome our first ambulance to the fleet while our newest EMS professionals are currently in Week 2 of their four-week recruit academy. This is more than a new ambulance—it's another step toward delivering faster, stronger, and more reliable emergency medical services to our community.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our Board of Commissioners, Township leadership, and the dedicated men and women committed to building a premier public safety system.

Manheim Township continues to lead Pennsylvania by investing in the future of public safety. Our residents deserve exceptional police, fire, and EMS services, and we're committed to providing the highest level of care when every second counts.

This is just the beginning. The future of fire-based EMS in Manheim Township is taking shape, and we're proud to be leading the way.
