By the end of the school day Friday, Fulton Elementary School could’ve emptied out like usual. Instead, families stayed.

Music and laughter carried across the playground while food trucks lined the school grounds serving everything from burgers and pretzels to shaved ice.

Fulton's Annual Spring Fling on May 8 felt like one of those afternoons where school turned into something even bigger than a building.

Organized by Robert Fulton Elementary FTO, the event brought together students, staff, families, and community partners for an evening filled with face painting, activities, food, and one very popular dunk tank.

The dunk tank quickly became the center of attention. Students crowded around waiting for their chance to dunk staff members, all while helping raise money for the school. By the end of the event, the community had raised $417, beating the original $350 goal.

Now there’s a new challenge ahead for Fulton Principal Mr. Sohonyay, who agreed to wear a silly outfit on the last day of school if students reached the goal. Students will even get to vote on what he wears.

That kind of moment says a lot about Fulton. The kind of school culture where students feel comfortable seeing their principal laugh alongside them instead of standing apart from them.

The Spring Fling was about creating space for families to spend time together at school in a way that felt relaxed and welcoming before the year starts winding down.

Thank you to Robert Fulton Elementary FTO, staff, volunteers, community partners, and families for making the evening what it was.

Now that we can be reasonably confident that winter weather is behind us, we want to share an update about the end of the school year.

After reviewing our calendar, we can confirm that students will still meet the required number of instructional hours. The last day of school for students will be Friday, May 29. The final day for teachers will remain June 1.

Thank you for your patience as we worked through this process!

At Fulton Elementary School, learning doesn’t stay contained within four walls. It takes root just outside them.

That vision took shape with the opening of Fulton’s new learning garden, supported by a nearly $4,000 donation through the GIANT Feeding School Kids initiative. Raised beds, fresh soil, and early plantings mark the beginning of what’ll become a year-long learning space for students. It’s an investment in how students experience education and how a community supports that experience together.

The garden is part of an ongoing partnership with The Edible Classroom a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating academic achievement, healthy lifestyles, and environmental stewardship through garden-based learning. Through this work, schools become spaces where students engage directly with food from seed to table, building knowledge through experience rather than observation alone.

That means the garden isn’t an add-on. It’s integrated into the school day and into the curriculum. Students return to the space throughout the year, building understanding over time and developing skills that connect directly to what they’re learning in the classroom!

Thank you to GIANT and to every individual who chose to round up at the register and contribute. That collective generosity is what makes moments like this possible for our students.
