Mrs. Sperle, Winskill Elementary fifth-grade math teacher, is excited to share a special recognition given in her classroom, the Hard Hat Award. Inspired by Jon Gordon’s book "Hard Hat for Kids," this award is presented to students who demonstrate the qualities of being a great teammate.
A good teammate is someone who:
⭐ Encourages others and stays positive
⭐ Works hard and gives their best effort
⭐ Listens respectfully and includes everyone
⭐ Puts the team before themselves
⭐ Helps create a safe and supportive classroom community
Each time the Hard Hat Award is given, it recognizes a student who has gone above and beyond in showing these qualities. This week's awardees are:
⛑ Addie Breuer, Mrs. Price's homeroom
🗣 "Addie is an enthusiastic student and her desire to learn and grow in math shows up daily. She isn't afraid to ask questions and her positive approach to learning is contagious to those around her. She is an active participant in her table team and small group at the boards. She is not afraid to tell a teammate, 'I'm not sure I understand how you got that answer.' This has helped not only Addie grow as a mathematician, but those around her as well. I appreciate Addie's willingness to work hard with a smile."
⛑ Baylor Buschor, Mrs. Bussan's homeroom
🗣 "Baylor has had a positive impact on those around him in math this year. He uses his skills and confidence in math to move others forward and support those who may need a little more time. I can count on Baylor's hand to be raised during class to share his thinking or ask a question. His engaged approach to learning has set his classmates up for success and I appreciate his willingness to work hard and challenge himself. I appreciate his patience, kindness and support for others. He accepts the challenges I give him and works hard to continue to grow."
⛑ Evan Slane, Mrs. Sperle's homeroom
🗣 "Evan is a kid who excels at math, but is humble, hungry and always desires to learn more. He approaches each challenge with a positive attitude and the grit and determination to figure it out. His work is thoughtfully completed and always with great effort. In his groups, he leads with humility and kindness always and shares his thinking, but also makes space for others to share their thinking as well. Kids enjoy learning from Evan because of his gentle demeanor and genuine support and kindness."
"My hope is that this award not only celebrates individual students but also inspires all of us to keep building a classroom where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported," Mrs. Sperle shared.
