The Lafayette Fire Company is located two miles east of Lancaster City, Pennsylvania, and is one of four fire companies that are based in East Lampeter Township. Our district covers portions of East Lampeter and Lancaster Townships, as well as several additional municipalities through mutual and automatic aid. We provide coverage for a community of 16,800 residents and thousands more in employee a

nd/or transient population within roughly 6.5 square miles of busy tourist district. This includes unique challenges such as limited access highways, numerous hotels, an amusement park, schools, numerous factory outlet complexes, a large industrial park, commuter and freight railroad, as well as urban high-density housing and rural farmland. We pride ourselves on having a maintained fleet of well-equipped apparatus and a strong base of active members who ensure that all calls for service are answered to the best of our abilities every time. If you are interested in becoming part of our team, feel free to stop by the station at 63 Lafayette Way on a Monday evening and pick up an application.

Our volunteers remained steady throughout the day handling 6 incidents as well as partaking in various company level trainings. In the morning hours all three apparatus were staffed - The tower crew headed over to Greenfield Road to do member tower sign offs, which include setup, operation, and climbing of the aerial. Squad 63 was doing new driver orientation and first due familiarization. Engine 63 remained staffed at the hall with 4 personnel and assisted company 62 with a cardiac arrest.

Around noon time, Squad 63 was dispatched to the no hundred block of Pitney Road for a tree across wires with grass catching fire. Crews arrived and controlled traffic. Crews were dedicated to the incident for just over 5 hours.

As crews were operating on the wires call, Deputy 62 (Horn) called out a brush fire, in the 100 block of Pitney road, down a steep embankment near the railroad tracks. Squad 63 sent two members with hooks and cans to extinguish the fire, with the assistance of Squad, Pumper Tanker, and Utility 62. Deputy 62 held the 63 command.

Just before 1 PM, box 63-06 was filled for a reported fire in a commercial building in the 100 block of Greenfield Road. Squad 63 redirected from the wires call. 911 caller report fire in the roof. Deputy 62 (Horn) arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the roof, hitting the working fire dispatch. Squad 62 and 63 arrived simultaneously. Squad 62 secured a water supply and stretched handlines to the door with the assistance of Squad 63. Squad 63 acted as the first due special. Ladder 204 arrived and was sent to the roof, where an active roof fire was discovered. Squad 63 and Ladder 204 operated together on extinguishing all active fire. Tower 63 sent a crew to the roof and controlled the utilities. Crews overhauled the building and extinguished remaining hotspots and confirmed the work with the assistance of a thermal imaging drone. Crews operated for just over two hours. Deputy 62 and Deputy 63 held the command with assistance from Chief 64. Solar Panel Awareness Training greatly prepared our team for this incident.

As crews were cleaning up, engine 63 was dispatched to the no hundred block of Parkside Ave, for a brush fire. Engine 63 made the response with 4 and extinguished a 5x5 area of fire.

Later in the evening, Tower 63 was dispatched as part of the initial for box 66-04, with the 911 Caller reporting a hot water heater explosion. Tower 63 made the response with 5, and accomplished various fire ground tasks before being released.

Our Lafayette Volunteers have now responded to 282 calls so far in the year of 2026.

Just after three o’clock this afternoon our crews responded to two calls simultaneously. The first one was an accident reported with injuries in the plot of Tanger Outlets. Chief 63 arrived and determined no fire services were needed. As the accident was being dispatched, a public assist in the area of Pitney Road and Millcross was also being dispatched. The caller reported a cat stuck in the storm drain. Squad 63 made the response to the accident with 5 personnel, before being quickly recalled and diverted to the public assist. The squad crew arrived and safely extricated the cutest kitten from the drainage system. The kitten was then handed off to the citizens who made the report. We are happy to report they happily gave this kitten a new home.

Congratulations are in order for live in firefighter Eric McMillan. Senior FF McMillan this past Saturday graduated from Thaddeus Stevens college of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Eric joined us in 2024 as a part of our live in program and has since played an instrumental part of staffing our rigs between all hours of the day and night. Eric is seen as a leader of the firehouse and someone you can always count on to assist you with anything.

When Eric is not serving his community, you can find him spending time with friends and family, or working on his hobbies, one of which is 3D printing. As a parting gift to the Lafayette Fire company Eric put his skills to great use and made a 3D replica of Engine 63. The replica was presented last Monday at the membership meeting, and we have to say we are impressed! The replica was placed in our museum as a piece of remembrance of Eric.

Thank you Eric for all the hours spent serving your community in and out of the firehouse. We sure will miss seeing you everyday. Please join us in congratulating Senior Firefighter Eric McMillan in all of his accomplishments!

TRAINING TUESDAY - Mervyn (Merv) Arnold - Lyons

Every Tuesday we are going to highlight a member of our organization, and their recent training accomplishments. This is to give recognition to their hard work and dedication to the community they serve. Our second recognition goes to FF Merv Arnold-Lyons.

Please assist us in congratulating FF Lyons as he has completed a host of classes during his tenure at Lafayette. Recent classes completed include Fire Fighter One (184 hours), Emergency Medical Responder (60 hours), Elevator Rescue Awareness (16 hours), Foam Fire Fighting Technician (16 hours), Hazmat Operations (16 hours), and Vehicle Rescue Technician (40 hours) FF Lyons has dedicated a total of 316 hours towards the East Lampeter Township community.

FF Lyons joined us in the beginning of 2024, with no firefighting experience. He has since worked endlessly to work through his rookie book, and currently stands at the rank of “Yellow Front”. FF Lyons is also super close to receiving his “Black Front” which signifies a fully interior firefighter, although just has a few of in house sign offs left to complete.

When Merv is not at the firehouse, he can be seen working as a software developer and currently holds a college degree from UPenn in Software Development.

Please congratulate FF Lyons in these amazing accomplishments, and his dedication to the community!

Throw back video to the old Mack (Ex Engine 63-2) responding.

The Mack videoed is a 1978 CF Mack. It was in service from 1978 to 2021, being replaced by our 2021 Piece Enforcer, and is still stored and owned by Lafayette Fire Company!
