🔥SQUAD CO. 62 GETS AN UPGRADE🔥

The roto-ray is one of the most recognizable warning devices ever mounted on a fire apparatus. While modern LED lightbars are incredibly bright, the roto-ray survives because it does something many other lights don’t: it creates a very noticeable moving pattern that immediately catches a driver’s eye. The concept dates back to the late 1920s and early 1930s, when mechanically rotating warning lights were developed to improve visibility on emergency vehicles. The traditional roto-ray uses three lights rotating in a vertical plane at approximately 200 RPM mounted on the front of the apparatus.

Today Squad 62 was outfitted with a red/white/green roto-ray. While this may seem like a small upgrade to some departments, the addition of a roto-ray to Squad 62 serves an important purpose. In today’s world of distracted driving, anything that helps draw attention to an approaching emergency vehicle can improve safety for both responders and the public.

The rotating warning light creates a unique visual pattern that stands out from traditional emergency lighting, helping motorists recognize and react to the apparatus more quickly. Whether responding to an emergency call, approaching an intersection, or operating in traffic, every additional layer of visibility matters.

🔥 MEMBER OF THE WEEK – Tyler Griffith 🔥

Each week, from now until the end of the year, we will recognize one of our members for their contributions to Witmer Fire. Our members are what make this association so great, and we are proud to highlight the people who help make it all happen in view and behind the scenes. Our thirteenth recognition goes to Tyler.

Tyler Griffith joined Witmer Fire Protective Association in 2023, bringing with him engine company experience gained through his service with the Hand-In-Hand Fire Company and Blue Rock Fire Rescue.

Since becoming a member of Witmer, Tyler quickly established himself as a dedicated firefighter, successfully completing his orientation book and playing an important role in strengthening our team. Through his commitment to training, service, and personal development- he continued to advance within the department, promoting to the rank of Sergeant and earning his qualifications as a Squad Driver/Operator.

Tyler has been a consistent contributor to our duty crew staffing efforts, helping ensure apparatus are staffed on certain days and nights. He has also taken an active role in mentoring newer members and assisting with engine and squad company fundamentals.

*BUILDING FIRE IN WEST LAMPETER TOWNSHIP*

Shortly before 2:00 PM yesterday, Pumper Tanker 62 was dispatched as part of the first alarm assignment to assist on a building fire in Company 50’s first-due area.

First-arriving units encountered a large building with multiple exposures threatened by fire. Pumper Tanker 62 arrived as the third suppression apparatus and immediately went to work, placing multiple handlines into service while also supplying a ladder truck. Throughout the incident, more than 1,000 feet of attack line was deployed and approximately 30,000 gallons of water was supplied through Pumper Tanker 62.

As operations continued, Tanker 62 responded as part of the tanker task force to support the ongoing water supply operation.

Crews operated alongside numerous mutual aid companies to bring the fire under control and protect surrounding properties.

🔥 MEMBER OF THE WEEK – Desiree Creamer 🔥
Each week, from now until the end of the year, we will recognize one of our members for their contributions to Witmer Fire. Our members are what make this association so great, and we are proud to highlight the people who help make it all happen in view and behind the scenes. Our twelfth recognition goes to Desiree.

Desiree currently serves as our Secretary and is a member of our Board of Directors. In addition to these important leadership roles, she leads and supports numerous committees that help drive the success of our public relations initiatives, community outreach efforts, and fundraising events.

From coordinating events to supporting department operations and helping guide the future of our organization, her contributions have a lasting impact on our members and the residents we serve. Desiree recently teamed up with a committee to design what would be part of our future facilities for years to come (will be featured in a later post).

Outside of the firehouse, Desiree continues her commitment to helping others through her career in healthcare. Recently, she was promoted to an Assistant Nurse Manager at Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, a testament to her hard work, leadership abilities, and dedication to patient care.

🔥SQUAD 62 TAKES 2ND PLACE IN THE SQUAD CATEGORY🔥

Witmer Fire was proud to participate in the Columbia Borough Fireman’s Parade, joining fire departments from across the county in celebrating the fire service and the communities we proudly serve.

Parades provide an opportunity to showcase not only our apparatus, but also the pride our members take in maintaining the equipment that responds to emergencies every day. In preparation for the event, members spent several hours ensuring Squad 62 looked its best by:

• Rewrapping all exterior hand tools
• Repacking all attack lines
• Repacking all supply lines
• Washing and polishing the apparatus

The attention to detail and pride shown by our members reflects the commitment they bring to the firehouse and the community year-round.

As we approach the halfway point of 2026, Witmer Fire would like to extend our sincere thanks to our members, community members, mutual aid partners, and donors for the incredible support we have received so far for the year.

Thanks to your continued support, 2026 is shaping up to be a record year for our association—not only in the number of calls we have responded to, but also in training hours completed, staffing hours provided, and our ability to deliver timely responses to those calling us on what is often one of the worst days of their lives.

Whether it's responding to emergencies, attending training, supporting fundraising efforts, making donations, or simply encouraging our volunteers, your support plays a vital role in helping us fulfill our mission. The dedication of our members, the partnerships we share with neighboring departments, and the generosity of our community make it possible for us to continue providing emergency services.

We are proud of what has been accomplished so far this year and look forward to continuing to serve throughout the remainder of 2026. Thank you for your trust, encouragement, and unwavering support.
