This World Mental Health Day, we encourage you to start the conversation with your loved ones about how they are really doing. Conversations about mental health make a difference, and they matter most when we listen to people's experiences. There is no health without mental health. 🧠

Fairfield County Emergency Management Agency is proud to sponsor the Fairfield County "Safe Kid" Initiative next week at the Fairfield County Fair, Lancaster, Ohio

We’ve teamed up with the Lancaster Police Department, Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, and the Lancaster Fire Department to help distribute special safety wristbands for children.

To participate, stop by one of their tents along the Cattle Barn Midway. They will help you write your child’s name and your phone number on the inside of the wristband. If you become separated during the fair, law enforcement can quickly remove the wristband and contact you to reunite your family.

We’re excited to support this simple but important safety resource. Let’s work together to keep our kids safe at the Fair!

This Fire Prevention Week's theme is “Charge into Fire Safety. Safe Charging is a Superpower.”

This week focuses on everyday device-charging habits that can reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep our homes and community safer.

Follow these tips to “use your charging superpowers” and practice safe habits:

-Cheap charger? Don’t use it. Cheap or off-brand chargers may not meet important safety standards and can damage the battery, increasing the chance of fire.
-Charge on a hard, flat surface. Chargers and devices create heat during charging. Soft surfaces like a bed or pillow trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat.
-Stop using your device if it feels hot, starts to swell, smells strange, leaks, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds.
-Unplug your device when it is fully charged.
-Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible.

Today, October 5th, is World Day of Bullying Prevention 💙

Bullying affects many children and teens each day and has lasting effects.

Research indicates that persistent bullying can lead to or worsen feelings of isolation, rejection, exclusion, and despair, as well as depression and anxiety, which can contribute to suicidal behavior.

We encourage you to start an open conversation with your children about treating others with kindness and respect. For helpful tips, please visit: https://www.stopbullying.gov/resources/what-you-can-do
