Doing something on Saturday? A few words of advice from your friendly neighborhood SMACS:

1. Bring a buddy. Have a plan to meet up away from the activity in case you get separated.
2. Turn off face recognition on your phone - set it to a password instead.
3. Keep your eyes looking around--don't get tunnel vision.
4. Wherever you are, make sure you take a minute to consider how you could safely and quickly get away if you need to.
5. If you see something off, find a legal observer (LO) - and let them know.
6. Check in with your body - have you been standing in one place for a long time? Are you thirsty? Hungry? Look after yourself and your buddy from tip #1.
6. Stay strong and brave. You are stronger and braver than you can possibly imagine.

Planning on going to the Drag Story Hour with Miss Amie this Saturday? Here are a few tips to help you handle the expected protest (for both people attending the reading, and for people planning to go for the sake of counter-protesting):

1. Go with a buddy (or multiple buddies). Have a plan for where you'll meet up afterward, and agree on the level of engagement you're all up for.
2. Make sure you don't separate from the larger group of like-minded people. Remember: together you're strong. Isolated, you're a target.
3. Protesters really enjoy getting a rise out of whoever/whatever they are protesting against. You're gonna do what you're gonna do, but make sure you're not falling into any traps.
4. Don't get tunnel vision. Look around every once and a while. Make sure you're aware of movement/tone shifts/aggression levels.
5. Allow for autonomy and let the people affected take the lead.
6. If you see something that seems off, talk to a Legal Observer about it (they'll probably be wearing bright vests). They are trained to observe and respond.
7. If you're hurt, call out for a medic, or hold your arms up in an X. We'll come to you. If you hear someone else call out for a medic, join in until a medic comes.
8. You are strong, and stronger with others who are standing against hate. All of us at SMAC believe in you.

LPL is partnering with Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health to help make the overdose reversal medication Narcan available to the Lancaster community.

Free Narcan kits are available at both Lancaster Public Library locations, and each kit includes two (2) doses of Naloxone and an instruction pamphlet. Naloxone (Narcan) is a safe and legal medication that reverses an opioid overdose.

If you don't feel like you can do anything other than despair today, that's fine. You take time. Create the space you need to process and to care for yourself.

If you are planning to do something today:

- Turn off your phones before doing the thing.
- Turn off face recognition on your phones, and turn on a password instead.
- Drink water before, during and after whatever you're doing.
- Have friends you go do the thing with.
- We're still in high-season for COVID, so wearing a mask isn't necessarily a bad idea, nor would it appear out of place.
- Remember who's directly affected, and take their lead in whatever you're doing.
- Remember, your street medics are here to help you. If you need us, put your arms up, crossed, or call out "medic" - we'll come to you.

You aren't over reacting. You aren't alone. Stay strong for yourself and for all those around you.

Welp, guess we'll see you all out there soon enough. Just some reminders for no reason--not one single reason--at all:

1. Bring a buddy to any activity you go to. Have a plan to meet up away from the activity in case you get separated.
2. Bring water and snacks. If not for yourself, for your buddy. If not for them, for anyone else at the activity.
3. Keep your eyes looking around--don't get too focused on any one thing.
4. Wherever you are, make sure you take a minute to consider how you could safely and quickly get away if you need to.
5. If you need a medic (in Lancaster at least), make an X with your arms in the air or call out "Medic." We'll be there.
6. Stay strong and brave. You are stronger and braver than you can possibly imagine.
