Twin District Volunteer Fire Company

Twin District Volunteer Fire Company 100% Volunteer Fire Company Founded in the early 1940's when several men in the area reacted to the unsatisfactory performance of the South End Fire Company on Aurora street.
(29)

The South End Fire Company hand not been answering calls, and neighbors of the William and Aurora streets community took steps to form their own Fire Co.. Sometime in the mid 1950's the Town of Lancaster signed an exclusive agreement with the Twin District VFC to protect the south east portion of the town and the South End Fire Company was disbanded. In the 1950's & 60's the company had a contract with the Town of Cheektowaga to cover the 'no man's land' west of transit road. Boy scout Troop 545 had their first meeting May 12, 1948 & continues to be active in the community through Twin District to this day. Their original log cabin scout lodge was dedicated in 1952 with a new home being built on site in 2010.

Mission: MISSION STATEMENT: TO STRIVE, WITH A POSITIVE AND PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE, TO PROTECT AND ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE TO THE CITIZENS WHO LIVE, WORK AND VISIT THE TOWN OF LANCASTER THROUGH A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM OF EMERGENCY SERVICES DIRECTED TOWARD PUBLIC EDUCATION, PREVENTION AND CONTROL IN THE AREAS OF FIRE, RESCUE, MEDICAL EMERGENCIES, HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INCIDENTS AND DISASTERS. “ WE STILL MAKE HOUSE CALLS”

Great video!

Stay safe this holiday season! 🎄

Now that Thanksgiving is over, communities are preparing for the Winter holiday season. Over the last few months, we have shown you just how fast fire can spread in your home leaving you with little time to escape. If your Christmas tree is to catch fire, that time may become even less.

Share this video with friends and family for a few holiday fire safety tips.

Aside from the seasonal reminders, make sure to:

- have working smoke alarms inside and outside every sleeping area
and on every level of the home

- practice your fire escape plans with holiday guests

- and always #CloseBeforeYouDoze.

19 years ago 343 firefighters prepared for their morning shift, 60 police officers prepared for morning patrols and 8 paramedics prepared for their daily medical runs. But none of them made it back home.

Almost 3000 people never made it back home that day. Thoughts and prayers are with the families.

We will never forget!

Lancaster, N.Y. Police Department

There have been notable changes to the traffic pattern on Central Avenue in the Village of Lancaster, specifically the addition of designated bicycle lanes. The following is a brief explanation of the proper use of these lanes:
Bicyclists have the right of way in the bicycle lane. The lanes are not a second driving lane for vehicles.
Vehicles may utilize these lanes to pass a vehicle stopped in the driving lane and making a left turn.
When planning to go around the stopped vehicle, the passing driver must be certain that there is no bicyclist in the lane near their lane change.
Bicyclists must remember that they are also responsible for operating under the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Laws as if they were operating a motor vehicle. Per NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law section 1234, since the designated bicycle lane is there, bicyclists are required to utilize the bicycle lane.

The other area that has caused some confusion is the northbound lanes on Central Avenue approaching Walden Avenue. The attached photo of the bicycle with the double chevron is called a sharrow. The outermost lane (curb lane), north on Central Avenue at Walden Avenue, has one of these marked on the roadway. The sharrow indicates the lane is shared and is to be used by both bicycles and vehicles to assist traffic flow at the intersection.

We are aware of the traffic pattern issues, southbound on Central Avenue at W. Pleasant Avenue. We are working with the village government to clarify or make corrections to this area.

For further information on using bicycle lanes, please go to NYBC.net, select the education tab, and select the pedestrian/bicycle laws tab.

Captain Zgoda got creative with drill tonight.

Each team had a table with a cup of water on it. They had to lift the table and get the legs down using only the equipment off our Rescue 7 without spilling the water. 😱
Each team did a great job!! 👍

Then the Explorers played a little Jenga with the jaws 😏
