Twin District Volunteer Fire Company

Twin District Volunteer Fire Company 100% Volunteer Fire Company
(31)

Founded in the early 1940's when several men in the area reacted to the unsatisfactory performance of the South End Fire Company on Aurora street. The South End Fire Company hand not been answering calls, and neighbors of the William and Aurora streets community took steps to form their own Fire Co.. Sometime in the mid 1950's the Town of Lancaster signed an exclusive agreement with the Twin District VFC to protect the south east portion of the town and the South End Fire Company was disbanded. In the 1950's & 60's the company had a contract with the Town of Cheektowaga to cover the 'no man's land' west of transit road. Boy scout Troop 545 had their first meeting May 12, 1948 & continues to be active in the community through Twin District to this day. Their original log cabin scout lodge was dedicated in 1952 with a new home being built on site in 2010.

Mission: MISSION STATEMENT: TO STRIVE, WITH A POSITIVE AND PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE, TO PROTECT AND ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE TO THE CITIZENS WHO LIVE, WORK AND VISIT THE TOWN OF LANCASTER THROUGH A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM OF EMERGENCY SERVICES DIRECTED TOWARD PUBLIC EDUCATION, PREVENTION AND CONTROL IN THE AREAS OF FIRE, RESCUE, MEDICAL EMERGENCIES, HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INCIDENTS AND DISASTERS. โ€œ WE STILL MAKE HOUSE CALLSโ€

See these?

Do you know what they are and what they represent?

They are the shoes of volunteer firefighters.

They are the comfortable shoes, worn at home, running errands, taking the dog out, raking the leaves.

They were shed without hesitation to don heavy uncomfortable boots and bunker gear designed to offer at least some protection from fire, broken glass, and jagged metal.
Clothing whose sole purpose is to protect..... those who protect you.

Local guys.

They work in the oil patch, the local ag supplier, trucking company, phone company or area farms. Some are even retired but just not smart enough to stay that way.

They leave their wives, children, parents or whomever to come to complete strangers aid.

12 noon, 3pm, 2 am, it makes no difference.

And their families want little more than to see them put their shoes back on at the end of the call.

There are no words to describe the task of picking up that pair of shoes after a call, knowing the man or woman who put them there will not be returning to do it themselves.

Pay attention.

Get off the fricking phone.

Move over.

Help them put their shoes back on

We have had a great loss within the Twin District family. Jim Offhaus who has served in our fire company since July 1980 has passed. Jim was a Life Member and has served as both an Assistant Chief and Fire Chief. He was involved in many committees including the Gun Raffle and Big Buck. He also served as the chairman of the Family Picnic. Ending his last few years here as part of our Fire Police Squad. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Offhaus family during this time. Rest easy Chief Offhaus, we'll take it from here.

Shepherdstown Fire Department

This evening while fire department personnel were operating inside a house fire on Sandpiper Lane, in the Mecklenburg Subdivision, a motorist drove over our water supply hose. As you can see our hose was damaged to the point it was rendered inoperable for use. This hose supplies our firefighters with the needed water to extinguish the fire. With the supply line being damaged and incapable of delivering the needed water supply could have endangered the lives of any citizens or firefighters inside the house. The lives of our citizens and fire department personnel are of the utmost importance to us. Please, we can not stress this enough, if you are driving down a street or road, and encounter fire hose across the street, please refrain from driving across the hose. Many lives could have been severely hurt, or worse killed by driving across our hose.

Last night for drill TDFC FFs tested new environmentally friendly foam from FireAde to increase our efficiency putting out fires with less water and easier clean up. We put out these car fires with only 10 gallons of water vs 250-500 gal of plain water. Can be used with 98% of our fires. Temperatures went from 1000deg to 100deg in 2 minutes. #NeverStopLearning #AlwaysAdvancing #FireAde2K

HEAT WARNING: The National Weather Service has posted heat advisories for the northeastern US this week and weekend. High temperatures combined with high humidity will create uncomfortable and potentially health-hazardous conditions.

1. Stay hydrated. Water is the best drink for continued hydration.

2. Avoid prolonged outdoor exercise and strenuous work.

3. Find places with air conditioning to get out of the heat.

4. Keep a careful watch on children, elderly, and persons with disabilities as they are most susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

5. If you or someone else develops dizziness, weakness, or confusion, or passes out after being in the heat, call 911 immediately!

Stay cool and stay safe!

Eden Fire Department #1

Please be patient and drive cautiously!!

Tuesday afternoon, Eden Firefighters were activated for an auto accident with injury at Route 20 and Shadagee. Crews cleaned up a small fuel spill from the tractor trailer involved, and assisted with traffic control. While directing traffic, one of our members was struck by a vehicle who was too impatient to wait and follow direction. Luckily, our member was alert and able to get out of the way only having his arm struck. Please remember that we have families too and would love to make it home to them after each and every call. We can assure you that we will always open the roadway to normal traffic as soon as it is safe to do so.
