Post 2: Neighbors Helping Neighbors 🤝
During and after the storm, CERT volunteers stepped in as conditions allowed—checking on neighbors, clearing snow and ice, delivering supplies, and assisting elderly and mobility-impaired residents.
⏱️ 45 volunteer hours were provided, with teams ready to activate sheltering and warming stations if needed.
This storm reminded us that emergency response doesn’t always come with sirens—it comes when neighbors show up for one another.
đź•’ Training is just two hours, one evening a month.

Post 1: Prepared & Ready 🧊What a week!
January 22–28, 2026
Our deepest thanks to EMS, Fire, EMTs, Law Enforcement, VDOT, electric crews, and all who helped keep our community safe during the ice storm. You are heroes. đź’™
Before the storm, Eastern VA CERT proactively relocated 100 cots and tarps to Kilmarnock for quick access if sheltering was needed. We also supported residents by answering questions and helping families prepare—because resilience starts locally.

❄️ Winter Storm Preparedness Update ❄️
Lancaster County government departments and community partners are actively preparing for the upcoming winter storm.
As part of these preparations, warming centers may be opened if prolonged power outages occur. These centers would provide residents without power a safe place to:
• Warm up
• Charge devices
• Access information and assistance
📍 Warming center locations and hours will be determined based on power outages, road conditions, and available facilities.
Updates about warming centers and other storm-related services will be shared through:
• Social media Lancaster County Emergency Services
• Local radio stations 101-7 BAY FM
• Virginia 211
⚠️ Residents are encouraged to complete final storm preparations now and continue to monitor official updates as conditions develop.
Please stay safe and look out for one another.
