On behalf of the Board of Directors, Officers, and Staff of Lancaster Ambulance, we extend our deepest condolences to Seneca Hose Fire, Erie County EMS, and Erie County HAZMAT on the passing of fellow first responder Tyler Schenck.

It is with great sadness that we notify you of the loss of one of our members, Tyler Schenck, who passed away in an accident last evening.

Tyler was not only a valued and respected member of our organization, but also a member of the Erie County Department of Health, EMS Division; the Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services, Hazardous Materials Response Team; and Hamburg EMS, as well as a former member of Reserve Fire Company.

At approximately 2200 hours on August 22, 2026, emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident in the Town of Elma. Members of the Blossom Vol. Fire Company, Spring Brook Fire District #1, Erie County EMS, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded and worked together to manage the incident.

Tyler was described by those who knew and worked alongside him as lovable, lighthearted, and a passionate EMS provider who genuinely cared about everyone he met. During his time serving in the fire and EMS communities, Tyler made a meaningful impact on his coworkers, fellow first responders, and the people he served. His loss will be deeply felt throughout our public safety, fire, and EMS communities. Our deepest condolences go out to the Schenck family, Tyler’s friends, and his fellow members during this incredibly difficult time.

Now that we have passed the halfway point of the year, we want to share some data, statistics, and highlights from our operations.

During the first six months of the year, LVAC responded to 3,734 calls for help within our service area. Of those calls, 77% resulted in transport to the hospital. On average, our crews responded to 21 calls per day. Our busiest day so far was March 27, when we responded to 35 calls.

Our team has also responded to 39 cardiac arrests this year. In 12 of those cases, patients achieved ROSC, or return of spontaneous circulation, and maintained it through arrival at the emergency room.

Since adding McGrath video laryngoscopes, our crews have achieved a 100% first pass success rate.

To support this level of service, we have increased our typical daily staffing to four 24-hour paramedic ambulances and one 16-hour paramedic ambulance. We are incredibly proud of our dedicated staff that makes this all possible.

Like many healthcare and first responder agencies, we work every day to balance two important priorities: keeping highly trained staff ready to respond at a moment’s notice and managing the rising costs of operations.

Staffing, equipment, and facility expenses continue to increase, but insurance reimbursements have not kept pace. To help meet these needs, we will soon be sending our fund drive letter to the communities we serve.

Funds raised through this effort will support two major priorities:
-Repairing the roof at our station
-Purchasing a new ambulance to replace an old model

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, all LVAC funds are used to staff, equip, and support the agency so we can continue serving the public. Donations made to LVAC are tax deductible.

LVAC currently receives no financial support from the Municipalities we serve. We are funded entirely through community donations and reimbursements from insurance companies for services provided. Your support helps ensure we can continue responding when our community needs us most.

As we reach the middle of National EMS Week, we wanted to take a moment to intentionally pause and recognize the incredible EMS providers and fellow first responders who serve our community every single day. While many EMS Week posts are shared at the beginning of the week, we felt it was important to make sure this recognition did not get lost, because the dedication, sacrifices, and hard work of our crews deserve to be acknowledged all week long.

To our EMS providers, firefighters, police officers, dispatchers, hospital staff, and all first responders, thank you for the countless hours you put in to keep our community safe. Whether it’s a routine call or someone’s worst day, you continue to answer with professionalism, compassion, and commitment.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to Great Lakes Coffee Company, The Village Scoop, and Green Acres Ice Cream for partnering with us once again to help celebrate our providers during EMS Week. Your continued support and generosity toward our crews is greatly appreciated.

For almost two decades, the Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance Corps (LVAC) Juniors have been offering community outreach programs in the months of April and May. These annual events provides free blood pressure clinics at all Tops locations in the LVAC call area.

The locations involved include Tops in Depew at
D&L Plaza, Tops on Broadway in Alden, Tops on Transit Road near French Road, and Tops at Transit and Rehm roads.

The next blood pressure clinics will take place at the following times and locations: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at 6363 Transit Rd., Lancaster; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at 5175 Broadway, Depew.
