One of our favorite traditions each year is partnering with the Lancaster Police Department to celebrate National Night Out.

This event is a great reminder that when law enforcement and the community come together, we build stronger relationships, safer neighborhoods, and a better Lancaster County.

A Columbia, SC Mosque leader and school administrator was recently arrested after multiple women reported being sexually assaulted over a period spanning more than a decade, using his leadership position to exert power over the victims during the assaults.

Often perpetrators of sexual violence are people in a position of power or trust โ€“ a faith leader, a boss, teacher, landlord, or coach โ€“ asserting their authority over victims. Survivors may feel confused, afraid, embarrassed, or unsure if anyone will believe them.

If you have experienced sexual violence, know that you are not alone. Visit our website for an interactive map of SCCADVASA member organizations providing free, confidential support to survivors 24/7: sccadvasa.org/get-help

At SCNCAC, we recognize National Forensic Interviewers Week as a time to honor the dedicated professionals who help give children a voice and a safe space to share their stories.

In the last 12 months alone, Children's Advocacy Center interviewers across the state have conducted over 8,600 interviews with victims of child abuse and neglect.

You are deeply appreciated!

Help us celebrate and uplift forensic interviewers by sharing your appreciation or learning more about their impact.

Only 24 percent of the nearly 500,000 estimated sexual assaults occurring each year in the U.S. are reported to law enforcement.

SCCADVASA Executive Director Sara Barber recently spoke with SC Public Radio's Kristina Thacker about the prevalence of sexual violence and why so many survivors remain silent.

"Coming forward is a huge risk. Especially if it's someone who has power over youโ€ฆ your boss, or pastor in your church, or a parent. That can be very complicated," she said.
